Due For Phone Upgrade - Want HTC One S

I'm due for a phone upgrade. Right now I got the LG Optimus-T on T-Mobile. I'm not a huge fan of the phone, and plus the replacement timing couldn't have been more perfect; the LG is falling apart. I did some research, and I'm leaning towards getting the HTC One S as a replacement.. although it's really lame that there is no SD card option

I'm a musician and this phone supposedly excels in that department. I use the internal microphones on these phone to record guitar riffs and stuff; how is the built-in microphone? The internal mics are pretty hit or miss, so I'm hoping to hear good news about the one on this phone.

I've read that there is alot of bloat software that comes pre-loaded on the phone, and that it doesn't let you uninstall any of it. I guess the only way to get around that is to Root the phone. Since there is no SD card, it's important not to have any Apps that you don't use taking up space.

Thanks,
-Adam

I have the HTC One S. but personally, I'd have to suggest the nexus 4 that is coming to t-mo on the 13th. The One S is a great phone, my mic is a lot better than my old phone (though that's not saying much coming from pre-paid), but I'd suggest the nexus 4 over it, i'm even considering paying out of pocket to get it. I'd say wait and read the reviews. Plus there has got to be some guitar to phone input device out there somewhere. Just do some searching.

I have the One on T-Mobile. Can't stand T-Mobile, especially after the hurricane. The one thing I want to caution you on is built-in mics. I have yet to find a single one that could withstand any serious sound pressure. If I try to record live, it's all overload.

I don't expect mfgrs to cater to me as a musician but it would be nice to have the option. My old Galaxy 7 tab used to distort on acoustic guitar. Haven't had a chance to play with the internal mic on the One yet.

That said, I'm ok with this phone. It's fast and the display is great. In terms of bloat, Ice Cream Sandwich allows you to disable the greater portion of apps. If you need more control, you can always root.

Good luck.

I'm not planning on doing any serious recording on this phone. Sometimes I'll play a riff or come up with a melody in my head that I want to record, so I don't forget it. As long as the mic can pick up an acoustic guitar I'll be satisfied. My current phone, LG Optimus-T, has a surprisingly good mic. The only reason why I use T-Mobile is because it's the only carrier that gets signal in my apartment. I'd just buy an iPhone w/ Verizon if I didn't have the reception problem. Verizon actually offers some kind of device that gives out signal, but it costs around $300 (one time fee).
