I have done both. I travel a lot for business and will usually load a couple of movies on my phone to watch in the flight. Looks great and you don't have to worry about the guy in front of you leaning back and crushing your screen like I used to with a laptop.
As for shows, at the gym when I'm on the bike or the elliptical trainer I'll usually fire up netflix and watch a show or two. It works great and I've had a few folks ask me "Is that from the internet or off your phone? It looks awesome!
Oh yeah I do it's the perfect pocket entertainment! I got a couple of movies I bought from the store and it looks great. Now if you're asking would I rather watch it on this or Ipad I'd probably go with the bigger screen but now everyone else around you is watching.
I use mine every Saturday morning to watch bbc iplayer "click" and then usually something on Netflix , currently enjoying "Lost"
Fantastic quality. If I had to give up my tv I could cope with just my S3.
I actually use the movies i had ripped for my OG droid and they still look decent on the SG3. The resolution is just on the cusp of the screen making it look off at about 600 MB per 2 hour using "dvd to droid" but very watchable.
Netflix and Hulu are nice. HD Youtube is very nice. the Verizon NFL app is also very very nice.
The problem with my big screen TV is that it is difficult to bring it with my while I am out of the house.
I occasionally watch tennis matches on my phone if I'm out and have some time. I made a make shift stand for my phone using a business card or index card and scissors.
depends on the movie theater. The one at our beach house is really cruddy Colin dark screen, sticky floors, uncomfortable seats, and a really crappy sound system. In that case a pair of headphones and my samsung phone make a better alternative. The 1 at home however, is really nice IMAX theater, brand new, comfortable seats, amazing screen and sound.
I watch a lot of video on my devices. I have a Plex Media server setup at home and Netflix account as well as Amazon Instant Video. I usually slip between using my 7 inch tablets, 10 inch tablets, and smartphones. The advantage with streaming is that I can easily pause and pick up on another device as needed. I watch all my video podcasts on my phone usually due to portability. It does better when you hold it in front of your face no more than 18 inches. Tablets you can just set up on the desk and watch them on the side why you're doing something else.
Don't get me wrong, but however the screen may be superb, whatever is the resolution, 4.8 inch simply aren't good enough to enjoy a movie, not that I watch movies that much, actually. Anyhow, I do understand it's the best solution if you are traveling, or are somewhere you don't have a TV, etc. It also playbacks quite well, and the battery lasts well.
