Help SD card/USB host mode question

I would have been willing to spend $150 extra on this phone for one that has a sd card reader and removable battery. Google claimed storing things in two places is too confusing...I know what they mean I get confused because I have two hands and that's too much to manage lol...yeah right...its just Google's way of forcing you to use more of their services, just like when apple took away Google maps, etc. Since Google offers online storage and services, it shouldn't really surprise me but oh well.

So anyway since it has none I'm looking for the best possible workaround and I read somewhere about USB host mode and an adapter that converts micro USB to USB, and then using a card reader. Has anyone done something like this on a similar android phone, and if so, what are the best and smallest parts to use? Any suggestions from people who have done this would be appreciated, thanks!

There should be no reason that a host adapter would not work, that capability is built into Android, not the device... so it should be fine. Everything from micro SD adapters to USB flash drives should work fine, as well as external hard drives if you have external power on them.

The battery is also just a standard type battery from what I have seen. The back of the 4 just has 2 hex screws that keep it closed. I believe it will void the warranty, so there is no battery swapping, but in the event your battery is going bad you should be able to easily swap it out after the warranty.

That's an oddly backward way you start your post, had me confused until the end of the 1st sentence. :p

USB On-the-Go Host mode is what this is about, and cables look like this (for instance).
