For anyone interested, I tried this ROM last night. After swapping to the Dorimanx kernel, there seemed to be a lot of love for Rootbox on the the Dorimanx XDA forum, so thought would try it and see.

  • Based on JB 4.1.2 - Built from RootBox Sources (Teamhacksung, CM & AOKP)
  • HSPA+ Support
  • A2DP Support
  • T9 Dialer
  • Cherry picked fixes from CM
  • OTA Update
  • ExTweaks integrated in Settings - if ExTweaks installed in /system/app
  • Init.d Support
  • AOKP Features
"Out of the box" it's a thing of beauty. Looks sooo nice, super fast and snappy, a step above Neat (imho) in terms of look and feel. lots of new features, and everything packaged with the ROM worked like a dream. The dev has done a great job.

BUT as soon as I started trying to get other apps working/installed, i had numerous freezing, force closes and problems. If this ROM is anything to go by, seems the JB offerings are still some way off being an everyday useable ROM.

I've been running Root box with the latest (stable) Siyah kernels for 2 or 3 months now without any problems. Sounds like something might have gone awry for you during the flash....either with the ROM itself or the kernel.

Did you uncheck the "reboot" box and go back into CWM and wipe the cache and dalvik after the install?

IMO, it's also best to do the full manual wipes followed by the kernel wiper then the ROM nuke script before flashing Rootbox...just to make sure any leftover junk is gone.

A couple of reboots prior to flashing your kernel of choice ain't a bad move either.

CM/AOKP/AOSP type roms are much better compared to Sammy based roms in terms of fine-tuning and configuration. They basically have their own version of JKay bundled in the ROM, and can set profiles, slient times, change battery icon on the fly,....the list goes on.
However, I really dont think much of the CM/AOKP versions of what I term as the "core" apps, ie. messaging, phone, contacts and camera. On Sammy based ROMs these apps are far superior in my opinion.

Its for this reason that I invariably end up returning to a Sammy ROM as my daily runner.

You were right. Obviously did something wrong, tried again, and all up and working the last couple days. It's slick and fast, looks lovely, and performs like a dream. Just testing for battery now with dorimanx 7.4. Will report back in due course.

Maybe this is a real challenger to neat Rom, plus it's full of JB loveliness.

Thanks fonegyro for encouraging me to try again.

Will try and give a more in depth assessment soon......

It had to be "crumbs" from a previous flash or summat, I had similar problems myself last version ...it can be a finicky rom like that, but it's a belter once it's up and running sweet!

Battery's good on Siyah, be interesting to hear how Dorimanx pans out for you Syd.

Glad you persevered. Enjoy!

Battery doesn't seem great so far on dorimanx with extreme battery profile. Will check on overnight drain again tonight.

If not reaching sub 1% Will give siyah a go. Maybe it's my settings though, there's huge more numbers of tweak and settings to adjust compared to a Samsung ics Rom.

Ok. 0.5% overnight drain. Not bad at all.

Hey Sydney99, which version of the kernel are you using?

For me thus far flashing any kernel leads to a black screen after the kernel logo.

Deep sleep doesn't appear to work on the cm10 kernel it comes with, I've tried both 2.9 and 3.0, full wipe + nukescript by the wonderful Hawker.

Another thing i noticed is it will not restore nadroid backups, i understand it won't do ICS back up's but I made a back up for this room shortly after flashing it and both nandroid back up's for this rom won't install due to a mismatch.

Edit: Nvm latest kernel is working phew :p My next question would be I can't seem to find any options for customizing the lock screen icons and what not like most other aosp/aokp based roms?

Edit Again: Found it in 3.0 lol

Personally no issues with any of notifications (but I don't use Gmail), camera or gallery on root box. Browsers (stock and dolphin) weren't very smooth. Otherwise all was very good

Personally there really didn't seem much in it in terms of stability and smoothness and sickness compared to neat. But the kernel issue was the big negative for me.

I have often been tempted to give it another go.
