RAZR MAXX HD display - dark discoloration on the left side

You might get another with spots in different places. I have the same thing on my phone, my brother's GS3 has it, and both of our Zune HD's have it as well. I haven't exchanged mine yet so I can't really say for sure. I don't believe I've ever seen a perfect OLED screen though.

Mine isn't all too bad. My spots are closer to center right, but I just turn up the brightness and its much less visible if at all.

Can't post a shot, its not part of the Android software, its in the screen itself. It's prominent in very low light on dark greyish background.

I usually notice it when I watch a Formula 1 session, when my brightness is very low. You can see it up against the dark greyish color of the track. They're just spots on the screen. However mine may be more visible since I use rootdim to go even darker than Android permits.

EDIT: Here try this one. Set your brightness to minimum and view this picture. Zoom in all the way and go to the right and left extents. I can see my spots in this.

I think you guys are misinterpreting what it is. They all definitely have them, even googling "black spot OLED" shows up tons of results. It ranges across all S/AM/OLED technologies, across many devices, it's just not really noticeable unless it's super dark. Under brightness 15%+ it's probably not visible though.

EDIT: Did a bit more googling myself, the result I turned up is that apparently its from the adhesive used to glue the display to whatever surface inside.

There is a good chance a replacement will be better, I do recall the original razr and the vzw samsung galaxy nexus has their fair share.

I originally got a RAZR HD, no issues. I did swap it out for a RAZR MAXX HD, no issues.

The first one had a very slight blue tint to tit, this one is much much better (I use calibrated monitors all day, so it's easy for me to see these things).

To go along with both sides of the equation..

Yes you can exchange and hope to get a better screen. My RAZR from last year and PS Vita has it. My Maxx HD doesn't. My Vita had it bad. Just got a new Vita thru warranty so I don't know if it's as bad as before. No I didn't go thru warranty for the screen, my vita screen was jumping and the ps button stopped working. Kids....lol.

It's really hit or miss if you will have a screen with it or not.

Yes IMO.....I might not risk getting a new issue with a new phone if nothing else is wrong. Totally up to you.

Yes it's an Amoled thing.

I still have my RAZR from last year, that's why I can tell my Maxx HD doesn't have it. Or if it does, it's extremely hard to tell vs. my RAZR.

EDIT: Did a bit more googling myself, the result I turned up is that apparently its from the adhesive used to glue the display to whatever surface inside.

Thanks for this tip. I am just gonna assume Amoled screens are thinner than LCD's. And I just checked my new Vita.....no splotches or its not as bad as before.
