Root Replacing battery worth it?

I recently upgraded to ICS, did an FDR and rooted the phone. for some reason the battery life is no where near what it was on GB even though all settings are very similar.

Do you think replacing the battery to a new motorola stock battery or another type of replacement battery will increase the battery life on a day to day basis? Do the batteries that come with the phones lose their battery hold over time? It was fine before the upgrade, so i am just looking for ways to help make my battery last through a day.

Does anyone have suggestions on battery replacements? I have seen a few different options.

Yes, batteries do lose charge capacity as they go through discharge/charging cycles. However, it would be unusual to see a quick drop off coincidentally with the install of ICS - it's usually a slow decline in capacity (though they do tend to get really bad really fast - so it it *possible*. I just think that you would have noticed it on Gingerbread first.)

More than likely, you have an app running in the background that is misbehaving and/or running when you are not expecting it to. I think a good app to install is Battery Monitor Widget Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNjYzcxLmJtdy5wcm8iXQ..

Install it, charge your phone fully, and then run it as you have been doing for several hours. Then go into the app, tap the "Estimates" button on the bottom, and then the "Statistics" at the top left. It will show which apps have used the most CPU time since the last battery charge. Look for the apps at the top of that list for potential culprits.

In the off chance that your battery has spit the bit, I agree with dfib - buy only stock batteries. And Amazon does usually have good prices and quick shipping.

Check in the battery menu just to see what is using the most battery and make sure it isn't just an app causing a drain. 2 weeks since updating should be enough time for the phone to adjust to ICS.

Definitely stick with only official batteries. I'm all for saving money and I don't work for Motorola so if there were any way to save a few bucks and use a 3rd party product I'd be all for it, but people constantly report terrible results trying to use off brand batteries.

Getting a new replacement battery might yield you some results but I would say if you're going to spend the money at all, getting the official extended battery is definitely work it. It lasts for over 24 hours and the added thickness to the phone is really not all that terrible unless you are picky about things like that.

I did the same - upgrade, FDR - and was having faster battery drain until this week. I think the 5th hard boot finally made things settle down. I'm currently at 50% after 32 hours doing nothing differently than last week when at this point I'd be at 50-60% in 10 hours. This is on a year old extended battery. I think the system just needs time to re-establish the metrics for discharge. (I miss where on my Eris I could wipe the battery stats when changing ROMs)
