Someone please help me out it's really fustrating. The S3 is awesome but Email is such an issue.

I just don't get notified when I get an email? Nothing at all? I have to literally go into the Stock Email app to see them? Why don't I get notified? Notifications are turned on

Same for GMail? Notifications are turned on. So why won't the phone notify me of new emails and why doesn't it sync properly? I have Sync OFF because the SG3 has a ******ed feature of syncing all facebook contacts in my phone book (who the hell would want that?) and you cannot turn that off, same for skype and other contacts.

Problem is it used to work fine with Sync off but sync settings turned on in both apps (I presumed this synced only these apps frequently)

thanks.

Don't turn sync off. Turn sync on, then turn sync off just for facebook. If you turn the sync service off, nothing syncs. I'm amazed it worked before, but I have no choice to believe you there.

Anyway just turn facebook sync off if you don't want it
Well somehow it worked, back then I was brand new to Android so it may well have been on. But I turned it off because FB synced all contacts everytime I turned it on. Thanks i'll give that a try.

Yeah there's a bug on the s3 with facebook. It syncs all contacts even when you pick "only with existing".

I say its a bug on the s3, it could be an ics / jb sync. It worked on gingerbread as you'd expect, only if you have a contact for the person would it sync.

So there's two choices, turn off facebook contact sync. This can be done in facebook settings - don't sync anything.. Or android settings - accounts - facebook

Or sync them all and link what you want, they in contacts use the "choose what to display" option.

Yeah that's it mate. I used to turn Sync on then it'd do that..then i'd have to remove the facebook account to remove the contacts which meant relogging into FB (long winded) however this time i've disabled it and I'm using a 3rd party facebook syncing app which syncs only my existing contacts so I don't have to deal with that rubbish!

Thanks for the help. Everything is solved on my part now :)
