We Are Being Watched (Dont Download Illegal Movies/Music)

I think that there are some reporting shortcuts somewhere.

Feds: "Hi. We've confiscated files on your server because you had a lot of stolen content there. Your site was famous for it."

Plaintiff: "Nuh uh. Those files are all mine. Give them back. I promise they won't have an accident and get distributed again."

Feds: "Yeah. No."

As for content owners in the recording industry being upset - not really. I'm sure that their position is that just owning a copy of a file doesn't establish your ownership of its contents by itself. So that contradicts the last statement in your quote.

Finally, I'm pretty sure that a Facebook case already established that others can't usurp ownership of your content even if their terms of service say that they can.

I think that there was a bit of sensationalism in the article.

I've been reading artlcles where legitimate users can't get stuff back. These people stored photos and other items that were NOT pirated, and they used the system in good faith.

Just think of all those who have been bitten by the virus scam - some would think MU was a decent offer.

Yep, those stories hit prior to the the one we were discussing.

I'm sure that the same complaints are going to hit when 4shared goes down.

Only if you dont know how to hide :p lol

Do you honestly thing the RIAA are gonna the time tracing you through several different servers to bust you downloading a movie lol?

Most of the people that you hear about getting sued etc are Uploaders

If you're using Bittorrent or other P2P like Bearshare or whatever. Chances are you're an uploader. Because these programs by default make available for uploading the copyright infringing content you've downloaded. Unless you specifically disable sharing.

The MPAA, RIAA, et-al got your IP address. They know what's available for sharing/uploading via P2P from your PC.

Interesting subject matter....Same for downloading stuff in the UK?

Similar but UK law isn't identical to US law. The governments do tend to cooperate quite a bit on this.

I can't watch the famous football play from yesterday because I can't get TV4 (that's it, yeah?) content here. It was up for a bit but already taken down, just one example.

UK folks can a legal ebook of Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End, I can't at any price.

Purchasing music and going to the movies these days seem to be for the rich people.

I say have a little patience for movies to come out on Blue Ray or DVD and then take advantage of your local pawn shops. They are a treasure trove for those thrifty people purchasing music, movies, and even games.

You could even take it one step further and get it legally for free.... at your local library. ;)

Meh....torrenting wasn't even known about several years ago. One guy just came up with it because he had Asperger's and was obsessive about that kind of thing. Napster pimp slapped with entire music industry (and turned Lars Ulrich into a raging douche). Look at our phones, the level of technology, ability for devs like CyanogenMod to come up with new code, etc.

So they honestly think that this will stop piracy? What a joke. The ones that do mass sharing on an epidemic scale are the ones who could easily cover their tracks or create an entirely new system with which to share. Perhaps we should be working towards cheaper models for the consumer. iTunes, Amazon, and the Play store have made good in-roads towards slowly driving down the cost of some content. We just need to grind a little further. Because in the end, the casual downloaders are the ones that they hit first. It's like tagging the low-level thug while the mob boss casually whistles walking away from the crime scene. It won't create a chilling effect on the real problem causers, just the rabble.
