Help What are these glitches indicative of?

I did a factory data reset because my phone was having some issues and just a couple hours after the reset I was still having the following problems:

* Three different times shown on the phone. My lock screen will show 2:35pm (correct time), beautiful widgets will show 2:28pm, and my notification bar will show 1:52pm.

*Keyboard doesn't work. Whether it's the default keyboard or swiftkey none of them work. Pressing the letters does absolutely nothing. I've tried restarting to no avail.

*Push e-mail from GMail only works intermittently.

*Battery drains faster than usual.

I was having these problems as well as others (battery heating up, randomly restarting, no signal) which is why I did an FDR in the first place and after a few days it went back to this. I thought it had something to do with connecting to my computer so I did another FDR this morning and it was still doing this.

Is my phone shot? I'm at a loss for what to do after an FDR because that's bringing the phone back to square one other than the contacts and apps.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

if you have any task killers installed deactivate them. that sounds like your problem

... task killers are nothing but trouble ... and ... are you root-ed ... and ... did you restore a whole lot of apps and data from backup after you did the FDR?

Strongly recommend you don't restore anything from backup, get fresh copies from Play Store, restore only that small amount of data you ABSOLUTELY have to.

I'm not rooted, nor have I installed any task killers (unless something comes with the phone). I also don't backup any application data. The only thing that restores are my contacts and the apps are re-downloaded fresh from the Play Store each time. Not manually, they're remembered from my Google login and I have to wait about an hour for them all to finish, but I'm almost positive there's no data with it as I have to enter all my login info for Facebook, Foursquare, etc.

Should also note that my phone is now barely connecting to my Wifi (just that first, tiny marker is blue) and that's normally much higher.

Any other thoughts??

Is it the OEM battery? Is the Bionic in some kind of protective case? Is there a screen protector?

It was the battery! Thanks! I purchased an extra one through Buy.com a month ago and didn't put two and two together even though I had a similar issue with my original Droid. The first one was purchased on eBay from China so I kind of expected it but I figured this one would be okay because it was from a legitimate site. I also thought I had the original one in there but after inspecting them I could see the one in my phone had less wear and tear.

Will take some time to confirm but Wifi is full strength and the keyboard is working so I'm assuming that was it. Thanks again!

Great.

We went through a lot of problems in the past year with non-OEM batteries. Some worked great and people swore by them. Others had all kinds of problems.

There were even cases where one battery out of a batch from one retailer was perfect and another one from the same batch same retailer was awful.

The deal with OEM batteries is Quality Control. They are more expensive but the bad ones never make it out of the factory.

You will really like ICS a lot. They finally allow you to turn off the silly swipe screen to gain access. (You can turn it back on whenever you want to.)

Scratch that, it's back at it. Phone showing different times, draining battery like crazy (after an hour on wi-fi with virtual no use it's down to 86% from 100%), and the keyboard isn't working.

Any other ideas? If I bring it to Verizon will they replace it?

Is it still getting hot? That is an indication of a bad battery or some CPU intensive activity.

The battery indicator is notoriously unreliable. It could be indicating that some CPU intensive app is running.

Battery isn't hot. I took it to the store and she would have given me a replacement but it's out of warranty and I cancelled insurance two months ago. I tried to make a call to get the account password and the phone couldn't even do that, despite showing 4 bars of 3G.

She thought it might be a virus so I'm downloading Avast as a last effort and scanning it. If not, I have a friend that works at another store and she said he may be able to get me insurance retroactively and provide a replacement phone.

Did someone drop it perhaps? Did you check to see that the SIM and SD-Ext cards are firmly and squarely seated?

The only other note is that I pulled the battery during the ICS update a few weeks ago because it seemed to be frozen on the updating media stage. Right after was the first sign of trouble and I did an FDR which seemed to fix it for about two weeks until these current issues.

If it was me I would try it after making sure the SIM and SD-Ext were both firmly and squarely seated.

Also ... maybe an app is looking for some data on the SD-Ext card?

If you pulled the battery during the update something might have gotten screwed up. Instead of the FDR I would flash a whole new system if you don't mind setting your phone back up. If you do this I would sign in with your gmail account and then open the play store accept the TOA and let all your apps download from the market (this takes awhile).

I actually might start with formatting the SD card and internal storage. It's possible that there is a bad file or sector on one or the other, and see if a format fixes it.

(Obviously backup any stored files, BUT DON'T COPY THEM BACK until you determine if the problem recurs or not. If the problem is fixed, you may want to not copy files back; if it is still bad, it probably wasn't a storage issue.)

Thanks for the help everyone. I was able to get my friend to add the extended warranty retroactively and I'm getting a new phone delivered today. Just seemed like the easiest fix.

Quick question though - would they know if I send them the battery I bought off Buy.com with the phone? Could they tell the difference or would they care? Obviously I'd rather have two legitimate batteries rather than just one.

I think it is likely that they will replace everything except the SIM card, SD-Ext card, battery, and battery back.

When I received my replacement Bionic all I got was the phone. No battery, no back cover, no SIM, no SD card, no cable, no charger no paperwork, no fancy box. Just the phone.
