Help What happened to spell correction?

I just purchased a S3 a few days ago. All my previous smart phones have been HTC and was ready to try something new. I first purchased the LG Optimus G and returned it after 1 day of use and got the S3. Too many bugs wit the LG. Anyways, I'll get to my issue. After abwhat'sn hour of playing with the S3 I updated it to Jelly Bean. I then noticed that there is no spell correction or auto punctuation. For example I was typing a text and spelled "tonight" - "ronight" and it didn't fix it. I did notice it gives me the choice of the correct spelling but doesn't actually make the correction. I went through all the different menus, called Sprint, and even went to a Sprint store only to find out they were unaware of this and didn't know a fIx.
Other issue is punctuation. In the settings there is a selection for auto punctuation but it seems all that does is put a period at the end of a sentence. Tried spelling couldn't and it won't put in the apostrophe. And thit's just an example. Can anyone fill me in on whats going on?
