My impressions of the Nexus 4, ask anything

Looks like Chris finally did a full review of the N4: Nexus 4 Review

Decidedly mixed bag according to him. Hm. Damnit, every time I turn around I get a different opinion on the N4! Still torn between it and the GS3.

I've used both side by side (my daughter has the GSIII) and after doing that I wouldn't even consider the SIII. Hardware is way better on the N4, software is much faster and smoother, and Touch wiz still looks like crap compared to Android.

Hope that helps.

I think Chris was way too harsh in his review. I bottom line is that if you want LTE, storage expansion and plastic then go with the GS3. If you want pure Android and fast updates, a ridiculously fast processor and a luxury feeling device go for the Nexus 4. That's my overly simplified opinion lol

Totally agree! I don't want LTE (unless I had Verizon which I will NEVER have again) because of coverage and faster battery drain. I am indifferent about expandable storage (I never put an SD card in my 16GB GSII).

So the N4 has 2 big wins in the 2 areas that matter most to me... Physical hardware design, and software.

When sending a sms does it always push in landscape even if its a portrait? The person on the other side gets a sideways picture... Also is there anymore of that slideshow crap when someone sends txt with a picture via sms? Its really bugging me on my CM10 ROM.

I don't send or receive many MMS messages. I sent one the other day and it was a screenshot that I cropped, it sent in the orientation it was supposed to.

When I received a MMS it showed a thumbnail in the messaging app that I could touch to see the full size picture. I didn't have the slideshow thing like I have seen in the past (I was running CM7, 9 and 10 ROMs for the year I didn't have a Nexus phone)

I rarely use MMS though (typically one every couple months), so if someone else that uses it more frequently could provide more support it would be great.

Is google gonna have any instock by christmas, and there should be a 2 phone per order,..all these people including me are wanting one but then you have douchebags who are selling stock pile on eBay for $600?...

At this point it's better to wait... the added bonus is if there were any problems the second batch will hopefully have them fixed!

Google really needs a waitlist/backorder system. I think at this point after reading reviews here and elsewhere I'm going with the N4, but right now there's no way to get on a waiting list either through Google or T-Mobile. (I'm already a T-Mobile customer, and have been for long enough that I often get "customer retention" discounts; not sure which purchasing route is better.)

This is my deal too. I love the S3 but noticed a huge difference when I went from using one on AT&T to using one on Verizon. No service with Verizon at work plus 4G search literally kills my battery by the minutes. Also, the constant Wi-Fi suggestion in the notification shade is a huge bug-a-boo. My co-worker has an S3 on tMo, she has jellybean, great battery life, no constant wifi suggestion and gets great service.

I too never used the extra storage. I have a 32gb now and never even came close to my 16gb on AT&T.

Though the S3 and Nexus are similar in size, the Nexus feels better in the hand and because the buttons are on-screen, there's less real estate to cover when trying to use it one-handed.

Only thing I'm hesitant about is the camera quality. i do like taking photos and miss what I used to get with the 4S and 5, the S3 is pretty close in terms of crisp pictures in normal indoor light to the 4S, and it seems like the Nexus is one-step below that. So that'll be an issue I'll have to see for myself when it becomes available to purchase again.

Nope, it was sitting on the porch all day.

Pardon my language here but... What the actual ****? So they just drop it in front of your door? You don't even know exactly what day it will come, and they just drop it off in front of your door where a casual stranger could just pick it up and leave with your new (untouched) phone?

same they just dropped it off i was even home just a nock on the door n off he went :)

How big is the actual package? If this is true, than i'd rather them put it in my mailbox, atleast it's safe there! (Safer than sitting in front door of my apartment)

It was a relatively small box and would easily fit in a mailbox. However, if you're not there to instruct the delivery person, how will they know where to put it?

I live in an apartment. The mailing address does state the number of my apartment. So i'm guessing (hopefully) he will look at the number of the mailboxes on the wall, open mines, deposit my device, and lock the mailbox.
