Do we really need screen protectors?

I understand that many people will want to take extra precautions with their expensive SGN2's, but with the Gorilla Glass screen, do we really need screen protectors if we don't put it into a pocket with keys, etc? I took the protector off of my Droid Incredible for over a year and there are no screen scratches.

Has anyone scratched their SGN2 screen during normal use/carrying?

I've never used a screen protector and have never scratched a phone. I put a hardshell case on the back and put it in a soft case in my pocket, and since starting to play Ingress I've attached a wrist strap to the hardshell case just in case I decide to be stupid enough to try and drop my nice shiny note 2.

Started reading the User Guide PDF and it said very early on *not* to apply a screen protector as it can mess up the screen sensors. I think I might just go for a flap case though I don't know how well that will feel when holding it. The phone is large enough in my hand without a flap cover getting in the way.

I like using a screen protector, it just makes me feel safer. For example, I had a ZIPPER from a document bag on my car passenger seat rub on my screen ever so lightly and at a certain angle I can see these 8 evenly spaced little tiny scratches in the screen but only at a certain angle. Spigen oleophobic screen protector ordered with 7.77 coupon discount and still waiting for the dang thing in the mail..

the first day i got the Note 2, i put a screen protector on it and I scratched it. there must have been a little bit of dirt on the screen protector when i tried using the pen and I swiped upwards and made a tiny line scratch. i probably would have gotten depressed if I would have made that scratch on the screen itself so always go screen protector is what i say.

Gorilla glass does scratch, I'm tired of reading posts that always say "I've never used a protector and not had an issue." Try putting a key to it or having an accident. It will scratch, I've done it and had it happen.

I always put screen protectors on. A 3 pack online is only $2 most of the time, and are easy to put on(spray eye glass cleaner on, the squeegee). $300 phone is worth a little extra TLC.

I tried screen protectors of several varieties and they all suck. I have a 2 year old Droid without using one and no scratches on the screen. That said I don't put it in my pocket with keys and pocket knives either. Treat your phone with a little respect and care and you don't need a screen protector unless maybe your work or play environment might subject it to extreme conditions in which case you probably need a Defender Case or similar.

And then I question what purpose does Gorilla Glass serve if you need a screen protector just like any other screen material?

Just my 2 cents worth.

What's wrong with people saying that? I think most know that gorilla glass can scratch, but if they haven't used a screen protector and haven't scratched their screen yet they must be taking care of them.

Stuff happens and screens can get scratched, like someone else mentioned they put s screen protector on and still scratched their phone

I say do what you feel best either screen protector or without one. Either way just be careful to not ruin your great device.

I've had my note 2 for almost 2 weeks now with no screen protector and I already have several very small but noticeable scratches on the glass. I've never put my phone anywhere buy in a jeans pocket by itself or sitting screen-up on my desk. My jeans have a little smooth metal button on the chapstick pocket that I think has been doing the damage but it's as smooth as the glass, itself.

I am tempted to put on a screen protector but I can't stand the rubbery feel of most dry ones. Pinch-to-zoom, swype texting, s pen all feel like crap with a sticky screen!

TL;DR: This screen WILL scratch and I can't figure out how it keeps getting scratches. Can anybody recommend a screen protector that's as smooth as glass? I've heard of people ruining their phones with wet protectors.

I put mine on at the verizon store before I even start using the phone. Yeah, it's better without one with regards to feel. But after a while you don't even notice it anymore.

Cheap piece of mind that if I forget I've got some spare change in my pocket I probably won't tear up the screen. I'm generally very careful.

I'm not sure about the owner's manual stating not to use them? Never read that before. My phone works fine with the protector on. I think my screen protectors for the N2 are actually Verizon branded.
