Root [Verizon] Root Obtained

It looks like they got it up and working, with multi-view, signal bars and both mics working. The OP has been edited to say, "*Everything is working folks!! We now have a solid root method!!!."

I'm considering giving it a go, but very nervous since it would be the first time I've rooted something since like 2009/2010 or something. Years. Don't know what to do if I brick the darn thing, hope that wouldn't happen.

Updated :D

It's not the rooting that can brick your phone, it's what you do after. Generally, try not to delete or modify key files unless you know exactly what the consequences of doing so are. For example, most users freeze the bloatware with a program called Titanium Backup instead of deleting them. That way, if they need to install an OTA update, they can just unfreeze the bloatware, unroot, and everything goes smoothly. If you delete the bloatware, you have to hunt down the .apk files for the bloatware, as the OTA update might not take due to the missing files.

So, I'm officially rooted and started cleaning off some of the bloat that I trusted could be uninstalled (I backed them up before I hit uninstall). I'll post them below. I've decided to hold off on doing too awful much since I don't know what's safe and what's not and I'm not familiar enough with rooting/freezing/uninstalling to feel super comfortable doing it until I have a more set list of what's safe. :p

That being said, here's what I've uninstalled so far:

Audible 1.4.3
NFL Mobile 6.1.1.1
Yahoo! Finance 120906.01
Yahoo! News 12.09.06.01
Zappos 2.7.0

Hope this helps someone...

A couple of questions please?

1. Can you use some kind of apps 2 SD and get those games on the sd card?

2. How do we unroot ? incase we need to return the phone for service or ?

Thanks

So far, I have not found an apps to SD option that works. Seems that samsung mounts the primary drive to SD and the sd card as extsdcard and thus the apps to sd do not work. One of the rom managers is supposed to move apps to sd and someone said it worked. However, it did not work for me. I have an email to the developer.

Rooted -- added the calendar widget from SGS3 JB rom and it seems to be working good. Also removed a bunch of bloat. So far so good. My only last request from rooting is to add more apps to multiview and I will be a very happy VZ GN2 owner. Too bad root cant add the hardware pins on the back for wireless charging then things would be perfect.

Can you maybe post what you find safe to freeze/uninstall bloat-wise?

Also, how did you do the calendar widget, is it the one that matches the calendar we have on the N2?

I found a video on youtube of a guy that modded his Verizon Note II to be able to use wireless charging. Pretty sure he had to take off the entire back of the phone though. I think it's the same instructions as...damn I can't remember the other carrier where you have to do the same thing. If you can find the thread on XDA, there are a couple of phones listed as exceptions, and one of them has instructions on how to do it.

Edit: almost forgot, you can add apps to multiview without rooting. The downside is that you have to modify the .apk and re-add them every single time the app updates. Someone should write an app that automates that process...

Rooted my GN2 and now after it boots it goes back to the Verizon splash screen and loops. I've tried pulling the battery to reset and it still get stuck in splash loop after it fully boots up. The last thing it does is display that LBE is protecting the phone and then goes back into the splashscreen loop. Help?

Flash the stock image back with Odin. (ie flash the root66 stock image again)

Where did you get that calendar widget? Would love to get my hands on that apk. Thanks in advance!
