How's the battery life?

I have to agree. Going an entire day without worrying about the battery dying 1/2 way thru it is awesome.

Me too. I get unusually great battery life. I have to consciously do things to eat away at my battery. I have 8 email account all set to 1 hour push, 4G, WiFi, GPS all enabled. By the time I get off work, I'm usually around 60-65% left. By nighttime I'm right around 40%. I do notice that on my drive to work, i'll lose about 5-10% battery doing absolutely nothing (which I find odd) but, at the end of the day, my battery still has plenty of juice left.

I'm on AT&T, I had the same issue. About a week ago I saw my battery life cut in half. I thought it was an app that I had just installed, so I removed it and saw no improvement. A dug a little deeper, & found my problem.

Check your battery life manager, mine was being killed by AT&T Locker. I removed the update and back to all day battery life :D

Hope this helps :)

+1 !!! this happened to me too, I cannot wait for the MultiView OTA and a decent one-click root so I can get rid of all this AT&T sh!t

Do it. The note 2 is much better. Another upside to the note 2 is the battery can be removed so you can always have a spare. When you register your device with Samsung they send you a 50% off code good towards official Samsung phone accessories (discount can be used on up to 10 accessories). With that 50% off code you can get a battery charging kit (dock with slot in the back to charge an extra battery and an original galaxy note 2 spare battery) for $25. So after buying the note 2 charging kit you just doubled your phones battery life and got yourself a dock to sit your phone in at night time all for $25.

thanks for this... I need more batteries :)

I experienced something similar to this on my Galaxy S a few times, and on my Note 1 once. The real indicator is huge battery loss even if the phone is just left in standby and not interacted with in any way.

Try the following:

Download 'CPU Spy' - Free app from the Play Store
Install it
Put your phone into standby mode (so that the screen is OFF)
After 5 minutes, unlock the phone and check CPU Spy.

It should report that the phone has been in 'Deep Sleep' for the majority of the 5 minutes. If this is not the case, or (worse) if 'Deep Sleep' is listed as an 'Unused State' then you have a rogue App that won't let your phone sleep properly. Finding which one is another matter however.

The above worked for me and I eventually managed to track down which apps were causing issues for me, though this takes time and effort. On my Galaxy S (the first time it happened to me) it was Facebook of all things. You'd think a multi-million dollar company would do better, but even when its not destroying batteries, their app is still to this day, pathetic.

Anyways I wish you luck, post back if this helps.

I read somewhere that if we charge these phones while they are on and not shut off our battery never truly receives a 100% charge. To obtain this the phone needs to be plugged in for about an hour while off. You should see an improvement between 100-90 discharge.

After over 8 hours of being off battery I'm at 87% deep sleep. I haven't used the phone much today. 85% battery life left and just 46 minutes of screen time. By checking gsam I see my email program, Aquamail the biggest battery pig by far syncing five accounts every 30 minutes. And I'm living in bad cell country.

I'm on VZW and get LTE practically everywhere. The only real issue is in my office where the signal isn't as strong. I can safely say that even with moderate to heavy usage, I'm getting 14-16 hours out of the battery before it dips into 40% territory - and that's with every single toggle on.

This battery is simply incredible.

I am the same way. I actually was daring enough to turn on my wireless hotspot for 2 hours today and surf on my Ipad during a meeting. I checked the battery and it went from 100% fresh off the charger to 90%. I then decided to head to the office and listen to MP3s on the phone all day and not charge the phone at the same time. I normally have a charger I plug my phone into, but this time I just listened through the speakers. At the end of the day, after texting and some moderate usage, I am down to 60%. Simply incredible.

Best battery life in a phone.

Well, it's currently moot with the OEM battery and charger pack on backorder.
Not sure what makes it moot. With the battery that comes with the phone + a spare OEM you really will only be alternating between 2 batteries- that's how long they last. The 3rd, 4th or even 5th battery you will never use.

Also, not sure if you know when you place an order for something on back order, you can save that and still use your discount once stock is in.

Im not calling anybody a liar cause I usually get about 10-12 hrs at work(searching for signal before I get to single digits. and 12+ when Im off(doesnt have to search for signal much) but how can you tell who;s really getting this life off of 1 charge?

I mean you charge phone to 100% then take it off the charger. lets say 10 hrs later it is at 50% & u charge it again til about 75%. It still shows in the battery section of phone as it is the same charge. my Q is, how do you really know who's going off 1 charge or who's charging it mid day?

Thanks again everyone for your input.

One thing I noticed by checking the 'view time held awake' option in GSAM Battery Monitor is that the bluetooth in my car keeps the phone awake the entire time I'm driving. I drive a bit over two hours a day, so this explains the 6% reduction before I even get to work. The odd thing is that the iphone never did this, it would only drain the battery if I was actually making a call or listening to music on the phone. This phone seems to drain regardless of whether I'm doing anything. Is there any way of changing this? It seems unreasonable that on a really long drive the phone may end up flat just because I'm connected to bluetooth.

I took a couple of screenshots at the end of yesterday as well which I will post below. I let the phone get down to 13%. The battery decreased at a pretty steady rate throughout the day (i.e it didn't last longer between 30% and 20% as some people have experienced.)

I'm going to download CPU Spy and see what it says. I'm curious as to whether facebook is the issue - surely everyone here that experiences great battery life also uses facebook, right? Or do you view it through the browser as opposed to the facebook app?

I agree 18 hours is good, it's just that I wasn't doing much with the phone in that time. People on here are talking about going for 2 days straight with heavy usage, and mine's decreasing without doing anything. The battery life is good, but judging from what people are saying there's something that's stopping it from being even better.

I've had a look at CPU spy - apparently over the last 37 hours about 69% of the time the phone has been in deep sleep. The next highest is 200 MHz with 17%. I definitely haven't been using the phone 31% of the time over the past 37 hours.

I might delete the facebook app and see if this makes a difference. In my office the connection seems to be regularly flicking from H to 3G, and then in some parts of the building I'll get 4G. I wonder if this has anything to do with the drain. I'm also keen to resolve the bluetooth thing - I'm doing a 10 hour drive soon and I'd like the phone to not go flat!

Well, at least it's better than the "terrible" that you said in your first post. That's a world of difference.

Just to clarify, what's your standard for "wasn't doing much with the phone"? This is really different for everyone, but just want to get a good grasp for what your standards would be.

That Facebook percentage still sticks out like a sore thumb to me. You mentioned having a lot of notifications being set up on Facebook, but none of them actually push to your phone, but my 1st guess would be that you were either being mentioned a lot or notified a lot, and it was causing the Facebook app to work in the background (without your even actually opening the app to use it). For Facebook, I only have it set up to notify me when I receive a message or someone posts on my wall, so it's never been an issue for me, as far as battery drain is concern.

Also, can't remember if you had mentioned, but do you have work emails automatically being pushed to the phone?

Another thing I noticed from your screenshots is the screen being 42%. Are you using Automatic Brightness or something else? Since you mentioned having a 2 hour commute, in that time, do you have your phone plugged in the entire time or is it off (for the most part) unless you're taking a call? Some people have attained better battery life by lowering that, depending on the environment that they're in. Do you receive a lot of text messages? If so, there's no way to prevent the phone from waking up (via stock settings) after every text message, so if you want to help reduce that screen precentage (which really does drain a lot of battery), I'd suggest installing this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sIm5ldC5ldmVyeXRoaW5nYW5kcm9pZC5zbXNwb3B1cCJd

I installed that specifically to prevent my phone from waking up after every text message and it decreased my screen on % by 10%.

For example, today I drove to work and had the phone in what should have been deep sleep. (I pressed the button on the side, screen was off). I didn't receive any text messages or notifications. By the time I got to work I was down 6%, without having touched the phone at all.

This is what I was initially basing my 'terrible' comment on - having a 10% reduction by the time I got to work and checked facebook. By leaving it the entire day I can see that it's obviously better than terrible - but there are still a few issues to iron out I think. I'd love to get the kind of battery life others here are getting. Sounds amazing :)

I was using automatic brightness, but I changed this last night. It hasn't made a difference to the battery life so far today.

Your screen time was three hours! I agree that your battery life seems normal to me. You might want to post one last thing. Your battery graph in landscape which will also show the strength of your mobile signal in colors and the amount of time on wifi.

Some people are blessed with close towers and strong mobile signals. There's nothing you can do about that. The worse your signal the worse the drain. One last thing I see your wifi is on all the time. DL the Y5 app. It will turn off your wifi when you're not using it.

Are there any dead spots on your 2 hour commute? That definitely can contribute to drain, without your touching/using the phone the entire time.

You and me both. Unfortunately, for me, there's no way I could realistically see myself getting past 24 hours, just because of my work emails needing immediate push Monday-Friday. I even have emails scheduled to not push automatically, while I'm sleeping, but it didn't get me to the 24 hour mark. I have important information that gets sent to my gmail accounts all the time, so I definitely need those on an immediate push cycle w/ exception to the time that I'm asleep. When I first got the phone, and I hadn't sync'd up my work email exchange, I got past 24 hours. But that was the only time. Once my work emails were connected via exchange, battery life got cut by 1/3 for sure, which I was anticipating anyway.

All that said, I'm getting around 15-17 hours on the average, but that's with a lot of immediate push emails and a lot of text messages being received and sent. After you remove the Facebook app, see how that changes things and get back to us again. If you're not in the same situation as me, where I'm getting lots of emails pushed to me automatically throughout regular business hours, I really can't deduct what else could be causing some of your drain (other than what others have already mentioned).

When you had your iPhone, how was your battery life by the end of the day? Was it just as good?

When my iphone was new, with a whole day of heavy use (doing more than I do now) I would have the phone at about 40% by the end of the day. On this phone it's at 15% when I go to bed. This phone is behaving similarly to how my iphone was after 2 years of use, which is why I'm a bit disappointed.

I'm sure there are deadspots along the drive to work as I cover so much distance, although this never affected the iphone at all.

I've deleted the facebook app and the battery has continued declining at the same rate, so I'm guessing that wasn't the problem. I sent two brief texts before and lost 2% for it. It just seems like it goes down really quickly for performing seemingly minor tasks.

Just to be a complete noob, where exactly did you get the above graph? In GSam Battery Monitor?
