I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

Hello. My first post here.

Anyways, I just wanted to give another...sort of...confirmation from Norway.
Just uninstalled NPS 1.4 and installed the new NPS 1.5 and it works great in Windows 7 64-bit. Detects my phone every time, and it also shows there is an upgrade available.
First time I tried to upgrade my phone, the download went fine but after the phone reboots to perform the actual update, I get an error that I have to put the phone into recovery mode, and when I do, nothing really happens, so will let you know how it goes, but the point is that NPS lists an upgrade, and it's the same as listed above. So I guess this means that 2.1 SHOULD be available in Norway now :)

EDIT : IT WORKED :D Apparently the first time the phone rebooted it installed some drivers and I guess NPS just didn't get contact or something, I dunno, but once I ran the entire upgrade procedure the second time, it all went smoothly, and my phone is now running Android 2.1 :D

I'll attach a screenshot.

this update was through 1.5 so we no 1.5 nps can update the phone

One small update guys.
I called samsung Scandinavia.

The guy told me that they were working on uploading the firmware this week, but as we know.. someone has got it already

BUT, the thing he told me was follow this guide (in Norwegian sorry): Program og tjenester

lower part of that page contains a guide for flashing, when you choose the spica you will get to this link afterwords: http://support-sena.samsung.com/content_services/software/New_PC_Studio_1.4.0.IJ3_ForI5700.exe

He said that this was a special version for the spica (wich i really doubt). But it might be something to try out. I'm going to try it out later, live in Norway.

He also warned me about windows 7, wich is not as supported.. I think we know that too :p

Looks good. Having to translate step by step though as Google doesn't seem to recognise the menu options. Even without using translate its quite clear to see its saying backup your phone, install NPS etc

:D

And in the meantime, here is a British kid with 2.1 on his T-Mobile i5700, and it looks great! Good little review too!

YouTube - Samsung I5700 Android 2.1

I love that review!

"Erm... nope, that doesn't work"
"I don't know how to do that"
"Can't find that"
etc etc!!

And poor Jodie and Dad - their phone numbers displayed for the whole world to see.

But other than that, to be fair to him, he's shown that the new features of 2.1 are much better than we currently have on 1.5.

Now just need Samsung to get their arses into gear and release it properly like their press release said they already have done!!:mad:

Hi all, got my Galaxy Spica a few weeks ago and as the rest of you I'm abit excited to get my hands on 2.1.
Norwegian aswell, so was wondering if any of you have gotten some reasonable explanation why some Norwegians can update their phones from NPS, and some can't?
Downloaded 1.5 since I have W7 64bit, working like a charm and detecting my phone every time, unlike 1.3 from the CD that came in the box. Though I also get stuck with the message saying there's either no update available or no connection to the servers.

Sry if my post is messy.

Therefore my question. How can it be that some can download and update their phones to 2.1 (like here in Norway) using regular NPS despite what Samsung says in their mails?
Correct me if I've misunderstood :)

dont no the only thing is to phone them and ask whats going on why it says on there web site you can update when some people cant

Just browsing the samsung-firmwares forum and noticed somebody posted a link to nps 1.5.

Netload Serious Filehosting - Netload

So I downloaded, ran the setup which removed NPS 1.4, then ran again and got 1.5 version installed, all drivers detected for my i5700 OK (as I did in nps 1.4 OK). Update still does not work though, get either 'update not necessary' or 'cannot connect to server...'

This is all in the UK on a XP SP3 laptop.

Are you sure this is working with Spica, coz I'm already on 2.1 and wanted to check this suite, so downloaded & installed it, but when I connect my phone all I get is this

Ok, another Norwegian user here with I5700. Here are some of my experiences trying to upgrade firmware.

First, tried NPS 1.4 (from Samsung's webpage). Tried connecting phone with SIM and SD installed, and without SIM and SD installed, and with SIM but not SD and vice versa. No responses first. Suddenly, the phone magically appeared, but when I clicked update it could not connect to server. When I reconnected the phone it no longer appeared in NPS. Cursed a bit.

Removed NPS 1.4 and installed KIES. No response whatsover. More cursing.

Removed KIES, and installed NPS 1.5 from a link earlier in this thread. When connecting the phone, the entire computer froze. Completely. Even more cursing. Rebooted, same thing happened again. At this point I literally spat at the computer.

Removed NPS 1.5 and reinstalled 1.4. Tried connecting phone again, with SIM installed, SD removed, debug mode on and mass storage off, and the phone in flight mode. Now it appeared. But before we start all the hallelujaing, guess what NPS says when I click upgrade?

"Unit not supported. The unit you have chosen, does not support firmware update"

(or in Norwegian: "Denne enheten st

Hmm there's something really strange going on indeed.... I read on a norwegian mobile phone site that Samsung Norway had confirmed 2.1 to be released in mid-april....so I was basically just waiting for it to be released until I read that some Norwegian guy had gotten the update here, and then I started trying with NPS 1.4 and even though it detected my phone I got an error saying "Invalid pointer"....every time I connected the phone I got that, and I could not get the updating to work at all, so I had practically given up until I saw a link to NPS 1.5 and I thought "what the hell, might as well try....I'm used to this failing anyway" ....but to my HUGE surprise....it found an upgrade.

Now, I did have similar problems like the Finnish guy...update would download, then once my phone rebooted, Windows tried to install some drivers, which failed, so NPS wanted me to turn off phone and turn it back on while holding volume up, camera button and power button, but this ofc did nothing....so I fiddled around with some Samsung USB drivers I had downloaded and sadly I wasn't smart enough to take a close note of my steps, but eventually I managed to install the drivers right.
Then once I tried the entire upgrade process again, it worked...my phone rebooted and gave a black screen with a blue icon and said "downloading" and "DO NOT TURN OFF THE TARGET!!!" (as posted on some screens in previous flashing guides) and it installed and is now working fine.

Anyways, for you norwegians out there, here is the link that claims that Samsung Norway has confirmed 2.1 to come out in the middle of april, week 16 : Android 2.1 klar for Galaxy Spica - Amobil.no

EDIT : Btw, just a little addition....for all of you other guys with 2.1, do you have Live Wallpapers or 3D gallery? Cause I don't.... Sure, I can live without fancy stuff like that, but it annoys the hell out of me that I can't at least TRY this new stuff that's "supposed" to be in 2.1....why isn't it there? Won't the Spica support Live wallpapers and 3D gallery? I've been looking around on these forums for ways to enable/install this but it all seems to require rooting the phone? I'd prefer to get this stuff the official way, so really curious as to why it simply isn't there in the 2.1 update :(

It does have support for LiveWallpapers, but not with the home application provided by Samsung. You should install from the market another home application (i am using helixLauncher) and then look for LiveWallpapersPicker and install it. Then you can install live wallpapers from the market and use them.

There is a proverb in my language, trying my level best to translate it into english.

"man who didn't get dinner impatiently waiting for it, and the one who ate is actively search for a bed"

I am in the first category waiting for the update to 2.1 :)

Ahh yeah thanks :) I did try this, sorta...I installed all kinds of home replacements, but none of them have Live Wallpapers, so I guess it was just the LiveWallpaperPicker thing that's missing... but can this be installed without rooting the phone? Anyways, I'll look around...I'm sure I'll find a way ;) Haha clearly I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to all of this, but thanks for the help :D
