Hi everyone,

I have had an android evo shift for over 3 years now and always enjoyed playing around with all it's settings. Just recently I have become interested in rooting and how great it is for the phone. At the same time though I am not trying to mess with my phone in any way.

Where I am having trouble is simply finding reliable information about rooting - last thing I want to do is crash my phone. Here are some things that I would really like to do: transfer all apps to SD, install a better music player and install any new versions.

Could you refer me to some credible authors that write about this topic, in a way that a complete noob like myself would understand.

Thanks.

Ok so rooting means that you gain "root" priviliges, since Android is based on Linux. In windows, the equivalent would be to have be an Administrator, you are able to change any systrm files, directories etc.
What else do you want to know? I mean thats basically it, but then with those new higher privileges, it gives you the ability to flash custom roms, kernels (what powers the rom), boot animations, etc
