Before running the script do:
adb stop-server
sudo adb start-server

adb needs to have root to see your devices.

Thanks! That got it working but now I get this error:

./RUNME.sh: 42: ./RUNME.sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

Right after it copies the files to my phone.

Edit: So I got it working after opening up the script and looking at it and I noticed a few errors. First the line "./LINUXABD reboot" was miss spelled right after the it copies the files to the phone(Notice the ABD instead of ADB). Then the line that echoes the Part 1 of the rooting process was giving me the syntax error above. After I removed it I was able to successfully root the phone.

Can you scroll up and down with the volume keys? If so, the BobZohme modified ClockworkMod recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img) uses the camera key to make selections.

I just retried and yes, I can scroll up and down on the menu:
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
I selected -apply sdcard:update.zip and nothing happened.

Edit: I selected apply sdcard:update.zip with the home button and got this message:

Install from sdcard...E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) E:signature verification failed installation aborted

Oops! This post would have been an edit from the previous but I wrote on the quick reply window

The install update option if for official VM updates.
You need to use the "install zip from SD card" option.

Read my tutorial " How to install a flash_image, flash a recovery, ROM, and theme".
It's a few threads below this one.
Start at step 7.

From Optimus V: All Things Root Guide I clicked the link and I got page not found error. Was the page was moved?

Wow, can't believe I missed that one. Thanks for catching that.

To the OP. Start at the very top of my guide. Read several times, ask questions before doing anything that your not sure of.
Sorry, I didn't snap to the fact you only have 5 options in the recovery menu which means your still in the stock recovery.
The older custom recoverys have 8-9 options. The ZenGarden has 5 main options, but, it has an advanced option and an "install package" option.

You need a custom recovery, and make a nandroid backup from that custom recovery.

Try the Gingerbreak.apk.
It's in the All Things Root Guide sticky.
Make sure USB debugging is turned on. The file can be downloaded with Dolphin Browser.
More info is in the first two guides listed.
If it doesn't auto reboot after 10 minutes, pull battery and try again.
Could take as many as 6-7 attempts.

Then read my guide on how to install a flash_image, flash a recovery, ROM, and theme.

Might have better success.

EDIT: Dont worry about the security waning you will get with the download, thats normal. That's because of the way the Gingerbreak. apk. root exploit is sructured.

Hate to revive an old thread but I'm trying to root old phone for my daughters. I have 2 of these and was able to root one with gingerbreak and get a custom ROM on it. But I'm really having problem with the 2nd.
I tried Gingerbreak until I noticed my baseband ended with ZV9. So I've read a lot and I tried the jcase exploit from here:
[ROOT] Virgin Mobile Security Update Now Rooted!!! Thanks jcase!! - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

I get permission denied in step 3. I can't seem to get the recovery loaded. Tried factory reset and tried again with same result. So I found this thread only I can't find the (legit) EManU3LXX.zip download. Even if I did find it, I'm not sure how to apply this one click method.

EDIT: SOLVED - I went back to the original exploit post and it worked! I was able to flash customer recovery.

Anyone still out there working with this phone/exploit?
