So maybe it wasn't in the pre-JB, maybe just JB, but I have accounts back to the photon that this doesn't work.

Autobrightness. Get into bright light and leave the screen on. Cover the top sensors with a post-it. It WILL NOT DIM.

It will get brighter if you are in a dim area. but NEVER darker.

Other phones do this. This killed it for me on this phone a few days ago. Returned it. I was in situations where if it could dim, I would have had more than 2 hours of screen on-time.

We tried it on many moto phones in the office, nada.

Or you could have just installed Lux Auto Brightness app from Google Play. It's way better than the stock auto brightness feature. I haven't used it on my Razr Maxx HD since the battery life is insane even with the high normal brightness level but it worked extremely well on my S3. I'm willing to bet that it would do the same on the Razr HD.

There is not a stock auto-unbrightness feature.

I love moto products, don't get me wrong. When screen-on time is the lifeblood of longevity, this kills the stock phone. Sure you can install anything you want, but it's not a stock phone.

Just hope this gets to moto somehow in my lazy forum posting ways!

Edit: wait, you have haven't used that app even, hmmmppphhh!

Yes I have used the app, just not on this phone. But I don't see why it wouldn't work the same on the Razr HD. And I never said there was a stock auto-unbrightness feature. My point was that if the stock autobrightness feature isn't working properly there are other options in the app market. People replace crappy stock apps all the time with better third-party apps from the market. Why would this be any different.

You are missing the point. Can't do it stock, it's a basic feature. I got 3 people at work to confirm, and also complained about it when I asked... woah.

Got a few more friends after that... ouch. Why can't it do this stock?

I fully got your point. The stock autobrightness feature is wonky. It bothered you so much that you returned the phone.

The S3 had autobrightness issues too. But instead of returning it I found Lux in the market. No phone is perfect. That's why there are a crazy number of third-party apps designed to replace basic functions that so many phones do a sub-par job on.

I was just trying to help you out. To let you know that before you go to such an extreme measure next time perhaps you may want to try one of the autobrightness apps from the market like Lux. If it works then problem solved. If not, at least you tried. Sheesh.
