Company that does the most upgrades

I love HTC phones but HTC SUCKS at releasing upgrades. Are other carriers like this or is there one or two that release upgrades regularly? I really want to stick with HTC (the DNA looks so nice) but their inability to roll out upgrades drives me nuts.

not sure what you mean. i have had htc devices for awhile now. they all have recieved updates. of course though all my phones have been rooted.

if you truly want to get updates quickly then i would suggest that you get a nexus device. google's nexus will always get updates first.

They're about as fast as anyone else.

Nexus devices will always get them right away (unless its Verizon or sprint) and all the other phones will be much slower

I think the best non nexus oem would probably be Asus, but they mostly only make wifi tablets and the only two phones they made are unlocked gsm phones. In the us, it doesn't matter how fast the oem is because the carriers slow them down.

Exactly. And historically Verizon has been one of the worst at getting android upgrades out fast.

Examples from recent memory:

Sprint (1st) and ATT(2nd) already have the s3 on jellybean, and Verizon hasn't caught up.

On the galaxy nexus, it took Verizon and sprint the longest to get their jellybean update. It took Verizon 3 months to push out the update, and I think sprint was around 2.

Both unacceptable for being flagship Google devices.

What about Samsung? Are they quick to get upgrades out pretty fast or do they take their time? Like it suppose to be upgrades to JB for their wifi Galaxy tablets. I've read it is released in France and I've heard some say they are getting it in the UK now.

Just curious.

With Google having bought out Motorola, I have a feeling they'll be faster on their new phones because they've really made motoblur leaner. Samsung is relativity quick for their international versions, but carrier versions will lag, the Verizon version still doesn't have jellybean yet. I still stand by my opinion that Asus is fastest though.

If there's any doubt about asus, they just pushed the 5th update to my TF700 since it was launched in July, basically 1 a month. Any other OEM that can claim that?

Typically updates aren't pushed out by the company that makes the phone....HTC for example.

Usually it all depends on the carrier you are with to first of all get the updates to the device.

Yep, true for all US based phones. Choosing the phone brand for rapid updates works only if you are not in the US and using a non-carrier locked phone. AFAIK even non-carrier locked phones in the US are branded. If I remember correctly T-Mo used to sell non-locked phones but updates still has to go through them. If you are carrier locked, the manufacturer may have already released several updates for the rest of the world, but you still won't get them if the carrier decides its too much trouble to update you.

Of course they do. They don't want it to sound like they are the bottle neck. If you ask HTC, it's Verizon who controls the push.

My Sprint Galaxy S3 has been the most updated phone I've had. It has received 6 updates, IIRC, since I got it in late June. Other people that I know that have S3s in the US have not been so updated. I also never saw that type of updating with my Droid X or Evo 3D.

Nope. HTC says they're still working on it. They don't blame Verizon.

I haven't gotten a JB update for my Tab 2 either. Mine is wifi only so I guess Samsung is responsible for the updates.

True and True. You could try talking to Samsung to seeing when it will be for your device or if they are porting it to yours

You could always spend a fortune and import the international version assuming it has GSM bands compatible with AT&T or T-Mobile. If a user did that, their S3 would already be on touchwiz based 4.1.2. International Unlocked are the ones that get it straight through the OEM. Or just get a GSM nexus and save yourself the pain.

It could still be on Verizon, instead of taking a plain vanilla update they say before they'll approve it HTC has to add this and remove those 2 over there and then after our techs look at it we'll push it out to maybe 5000 users in the wild to make sure that nothing broke and then........

The HTC Evo 4G LTE updated to JellyBean on 12/13. 7 weeks to the day after the SGS3, but Sprint was the first to offer JB via an update to SGS3 in the US, and now the first in the States to update a One X varient.

So I think that in the US, carriers play a big role.
