Help Infinity instability and lag issues

Hello, new to the forum out of frustration with my Asus Infinity tablet. I purchased it in July and had lag issues, rebooting, blank screens, wallpaper going back to Asus stock, old deleted emails reappearing, launcher not responding, task mgr quitting, notification bar lags, browser lags and general slowness that made it a pain to use. Asus support suggested I wait for the JB update which hit in Octish i believe. Same above issues after JB update. I sent it back to Asus in Nov and they reset the OS. Same exact issues (I have print screens). I sent it back again and rcvd a replacement 12/11/12. This time I was very careful about which apps I loaded. I uninstalled anything that I didn't absolutely need (no games for my kids), however, I'm not expert enough to know which bloatware to delete. Still, why do you have to delete something that comes with this unit to make it work? I saw one thread where a user deleted even Chrome! I'm having the exact same issues so I headed to the forums again. I performed a cold boot but I still have the same issues. I have read where many don't have issues and many do, so I don't get it. I don't root my Infinity, it's all stock. On a similar note, I have a Nexus 7 that does not exhibit any of the same issues. I plan on contacting Asus support again but thought this string may prompt other users to offer help.....or empathy

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with yours. Although mine is not all peaches and cream I don't have the issues you do. That being said; will I buy another Asus tablet? I'm not sure. I like alot of things about it (especially the keyboard attachment) but it does have some glitches. I wish they would do more research of their products before rushing them out the way they do. For example, I don't understand why they pushed the Infinity out the door with ICS while the Prime was still out there. Why not just install JB on the Infinity and work the bugs out then release it? I do love the fit and finish of this thing though but I would change some things if it were up to me.

I think I'm done with my TF700. The lag and hesitation is ridiculous! This tablet is about as smooth as #1 sandpaper.

I'll probably use my TF700 for a picture frame and replace it with the Samsung Note Tablet.

I don't know what happened to this machine because it was to be comparable to the
ipad3. As much as I dislike apple, the TF700 just can't come close!

yup I second that! no matter how much updates they do they still lags and get error messages. Everything runs in the background on android systems thats why, I`m not a big fan of ipads either (wife have one) but damn the ipad runs smooth and reliable and lots of accessories. I`ll give mine to my 7yr old since he loves playing games on it and I'll buy an the latest ipad next year or windows tablet.

Me! I have had very few problems with my Infinity. When I do, it always boils down to some app running in the background. The latest culprit was AdBlock Plus. Once I turned that off, everything returned to normal. I have nearly 500 apps installed and only a few have turned out to be Bad Apples (pun intended).

I myself have had no issues at all with my TF700T and i have loaded it up with apps. It has been a great buy.

I usually consider additional addons and eyecandy when running any platform now a days due to the fact that they are always involved when my PC's have slowdowns and issues.

Thanks to forums like this one and folks like TexasBadger that posts their experiences to help others. This is what I really like about the Open Source platform, knowledge without attitude. Long Live Android

Update: Asus support asked that I wipe my Infinity. This is the first wipe for the replacement which showed instability from day 1. I wiped, and then waited for my apps to download (about 55). I then restarted and began using by surfing, emailing and catching up on news. First issue web pages wouldn't load. For testing purposes I used my phone simultaneously on the same network and had no issues. Then USA Today quit working then email would not connect and finally Task Mgr quit. I checked running programs and only had 4-5 running at a time. Again, no issues with my SN2 running side by side. I don't get it? Does anyone have any theories?

Try wiping it again, and this time don't automatically download those 55 apps. Now surf, email etc and see if it still lags. If not, then it's likely that one of your apps is causing a problem.

I'm one of the ones that doesn't have any problem with mine. But neither do I have it loaded up with apps - I don't know the exact count, but it's probably about 20 - 25. Sure, every now and then it will lag for a second or two, but it's not often and it's not long, so I don't get to concerned about it.

Helpful thank you. How do you pinpoint a troublesome app? Also I run the same exact apps on my phone and Nexus 7 with no issues......
Btw- I sent a lot of info to Asus tech support and their reply was to call the US service center for another RMA (3rd return).

The 'easiest' way to find a problem app is to load them back on one at a time, then use your device again to see if the lag is back. It's a PITA to do and takes quite a while (days, with all 55 apps) but you'll know which one(s) is giving you grief.

I did a "factory data reset" from the settings menu, so far this seems like a totally different tablet! I hope it continus to perform this good in the future.

One more thing to think about - after installing an app, don't just play with it for 5 minutes - use it for a while, in particular using he app that you just installed, as well as rebooting the tablet after app installation. Sometimes the instability only occurs after an app has been running for a while.

I hate seeing these kinds of threads and feel bad for those having issues. For the amount of money spent for an Infinity the user experience should be more consistently positive. I'm a new Infinity owner and so far it has been smooth sailing. I'm still on ICS as I plan unlock once I know my Infinity is solid hardware-wise. This makes me wonder if it is the Jellybean update causing the issues. If so I expect Asus will step up and correct the issue. I don't see how they can afford not to. Isn't Asus known for frequent updates and good software support?

It's not JB specific - the hardware in the Infinity is subpar, especially when it comes to the Flash used for (internal) storage. The Infinity flies in most things, but I guarantee that if I took my browser with B2R running versus yours, I'll win hands down every time.

What are the first three letters (CXX) of your serial number?

My serial is C9O (Or C90, can't tell) and I'm very happy with it. I have read all about the slow I/O, which is unfortunate, with all the folks reporting so many more issues after upgrading to JB, it seems there are software issues and therefore opportunity for Asus to make things better.

Having said that I'm seeing postings about a new app called Seeder that helps to reduce stutter and make things run smoother. There are really positive reviews on Google Play. Maybe this will help the folks with a lot of lag.

C90 reports have been few and far between.

As for Seeder, well, there is an article / blog post (XDA?) about why this may not be a good idea.

I have it now, and it is not helping one iota.

I've had a few issues with my infinity and have been considering getting a nexus 10 or a certain other tablet as my wifes does not appear to suffer any of the problems I do. Granted she has almost no apps and I have 50+. I have been trying a simulated battery removal that has had some success as well as a cold reboot.

Lately to try to help more as I've heard that an alternative tablet gives processor priority to front apps, I have disabled all background processes using the developers options in the settings menu. It appears to have worked. Give it a go and let us know how you get on or am I being wishful as I hate fruit based technology and love sweets!

I'm on my third Infinity and hopefully I wont have to take this one back. Best Buy has been good to me. So far I haven't had any issues but I just got it. I do have a question though. Is there any way the keyboard could cause some of the issues being reported? The reason I ask is because I haven't attached the keyboard yet and it seems really smooth so far.

I've been playing around with my replacement with pretty good success. They reset my new replacement (3 returns) which is a C9O serial #. It has rebooted twice, once while surfing and once checking email but I can live with that since in general I can surf news and get emails in the morning, uninterrupted . I have not used the keyboard yet. Asus did put a sticker on my device that says, "90 day warranty". I plan on calling and arguing that since I bought it July 2012. As a refresher they reset the OS of my original unit 2 times, I had the same issues, replaced with new (C9O), same issues, then reset the new replacement and now I have stability. I did load the same apps I always have since they don't cause issues with my Note 2 or Nexus 7. I would be interested to know what the fix was and/or issue since the RMA paperwork does not detail anything......

I will say this - just prior to the new (10.4.4.25) update being known and available, I got y first Black screen - I was reading a book in the Kindle app when it arbitrarily rebooted - frustrated, I went off to get some coffee, and came back to a black screen. Took several presses on the power button before it rebooted again and booted normally I was a bit scared.

Since then I got the new update, and the thing seems a lot more responsive. We'll see how things go in the long run...but I'm still going to RMA this for a C9O build so I can (hopefully) get a device till on 9.4.5.26 and use nvflash to back it up and then unlock and ROM it.

Me too. I really appreciate the help you guys have given me but I took my third Infinity back to Best Buy for the same thing (the black line) and when the Geek Squad guy told me I could get a refund I jumped on it. I'll be hanging my hat over in the Nexus 10 lounge mostly. I haven't advertised my TF201 keyboard in the classifieds yet but if anyone is interested you can PM me as I don't need it anymore.

I'm happy to report that my Infinity is stable and fun to use again. I am traveling for one week so that will be a final test. I will report back.
