Hi, thanks...I am using a live wallpaper for the home screen called "Blue Skies" soaring through clouds on a bright day :)

On non-AOSP devices, minor updates in android will seem to be non-existent. You won't notice a lot of Project Butter because of the touchwiz launcher being used over the AOSP launcher. If this was 4.2, you wouldn't notice the new toggles because Samsung uses their own, or the new android keyboard with swyping because Samsung uses their own keyboard. Same thing with the camera.

Jellybean was a decent update to AOSP devices, but is probably pointless outside of Google Now for skinned devices.

Excellent post

Here are my observations after one day:

Go Launcher now lags pretty badly. It was buttery smooth for me before the update, now it stutters and is slow to open the options menu. Touchwiz doesn't seem to be any better.

LED notifications appear to be working correctly now. They actually blink and are the color I set them to be.

Google Now is interesting, not sure if I'll use it. Tried to add sports teams to it but looks like it doesn't do college sports (yet?). The traffic card could be nice though. Let's say I'm about to leave work and there is unusually high traffic, will it send me a notification or do I still have to open the app and check myself? Can I set it to notify me if I am supposed to get a lot of snow or something? These things could be useful.

Battery is about the same, maybe worse. It still says Maps is eating a big chunk of my battery and now it isn't sleeping. I'm guessing this is Google Now? I always make sure location services are off for things I don't need. Maybe I just have to play with the settings a little bit.

That's really about it, can't say I really like it any better yet.

Went ahead and updated in spite of the Foxfi risk, but it appears to be working fine.

Need to mess with the device a few days before saying if better, worse, or no change. I can say I have about 300 apps installed and everything appears to be working fine with no lag. I sometimes have to do a factory reset to get things smooth again after an update, but not this time.

That at least is a good thing :)

Added: I use Nova Launcher and it is just as butter smooth as before the update. No issues so far with any app tested.

Quadrant average is 5700

Yes, that would be Google Now. I personally love it, but feel it's associated battery drain doesn't make it worth it. So I tend not to activate it and it corrects the issue. A simple data wipe under the apps/data takes care of that if you so desire.

Yep, disabled it and battery seems to be normal again. Too bad though, I was looking forward to some new technology but it's pointless if my phone will be dead in 10 hours.

Three things I noticed that I don't like. They removed the missed call and text shortcuts on lock screen. I have the motion feature set to vibrate when I've missed a call or I received a text, and then pick your phone up it will vibrate. It appears to still be in the settings but it's not working now. And the infamous battery plague. I've been very impressed with this battery but it's simply not the same anymore. Some have said Google now is responsible and if this is so that is very unfortunate. I was really looking forward to using it. And one more thing. When backing out of various apps when using that said app through a folder, I have to hit back again to close that folder. It's the little changes that are the annoyances. The phone does seem to be working smoother although ics was very smooth. I think I could have done without the update no doubt. And ics browser plus no longer works unfortunately. Hope the dev updates it for jb.

For those of you missing the missed call notification on the lockscreen, there is a fix for rooted users:

After flashing this image I no longer see the lockscreen notification bubbles for missed calls and text messages that I had in ICS. Where did they go?

For one reason or another Samsung and Verizon intended to remove the lockscreen missed notifications with the Jelly Bean upgrade so what you are seeing is normal. There is a small workaround to get them back but then you will have a small bug if you do that. For the workaround, if you use Root Explorer to look in "/system/csc" you should see a file named "customer.xml". Rename it to "customer.xml.bak" and this is brings back the lockscreen notification bubbles. However, upon doing that you will notice that this message will now never go away. The helper text for that specific notification will never go away because that notification is not supposed to exist in Jelly Bean so it doesn't know how to clear it properly after you've completed the action. The only thing you can do is by the disabling the "Help" app in your Application manager ("All" tab), which will stop showing all helper text. The workaround is reversible so the choice is up to you.

This was posted in the FAQ here.

Things I am liking about the Verizon S3 Jellybean upgrade. Some of these might be Jellybean and some might just be Touchwiz. Not sure but I like them.

Speech to text no longer sends it out to some server to translate. now works extremely fast and will even work in airplane mode.

Google now. Only had it 2 days and already starting to pop stuff up. Bought movie tickets on-line, brought them up for me automatically and time/traffic to the movies. Searched for a few stores on maps and it brought cards up and time to those stores with directions. Weather and Washing Redskins news. Takes time to build up things but like what i see so far.

Multiple LED brightness levels.

Brightness slider in notifications.

Extra abilities in notifications like can reply to texts inside of them etc.

Can put default apps for more things like which app is default for texting or navigating etc. Saves clicks.

Extra image effects in camera.

Call button within text messages.

Search functionality in Google now is MUCH improved. It still messes up some stuff. For example when saying "Convert 2 degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius" it types "Convert to degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius" which lists a bunch of webpages for F to C conversion. It shoudl realize that to should of been a number since keywords Fahrenheit and Celsius were used. This is really a problem with speech to text though not Google now. Seems odd it would miss that one since if you ask it to tell you the meaning of life it does correctly come back and tell you it is 42.

The settings menus are organized a bit better.

Wifi seems to be behaving better now. Not seeing any disconnects.

I have swiftkey installed so no change to the keyboard for me but i did notice the default one is a lot better.

I like the fact that I can now put in an overseas sim card into my phone when I travel next out of the country.

I am not seeing any loss of battery life by the way. Maybe the first hour or so when JB was installed as I know a lot of background processes were running due to the change but shortly thereafter it settled down.

All in all I like it and look forward to the other changes.

Only negative is S-voice still does not work well. Not sure why they have it when you have Google now.
