REALLY People? This is what some of you have been obsessing over for months?

To me, JB and especialy Now is a work in progress, there seems to be a Google Search update every week now and this is what i wanted to be part of.
I waited a LONG time for JB considering i have a pure samsung (unbranded) s3 and thats what built the hype.
Unlike the US varients, JB dropped a bit of quadrant score but ive just overclockf a lil bit n get 6000 now.
Im eagerly awaiting 4.2, every phone geek is.
Its cool to be a geek now as long as you have a real life (my 14yr old niece told me) and i have :)

I asked this question before with inconclusive results. Here is my question again on this thread.

I use this phone primarily for business - but it is cool to own even though it's way overkill for my needs. The phone works just great for me as is: links to Mac for syncing, transferring files, ibolt car dock works great, music works great, no lags, no issues. Absolutely, the last thing I want to do is break what works. I do have a weak signal at my home - 2 bars - but no dropped calls.

I have mostly decided not to upgrade to JB, but am still a little intrigued maybe because of the hype.

The question, is there any logical reason for me to upgrade? I won't use "Google Now". My only thought is I might be shut off from future Improvements or maybe get better signal strength. Anything I am missing of any real value?

I did download Kies just to look at it in preparation for possibly upgrading. I noticed right away that "Android file transfer" didn't work anymore and it gave me no upgrade option to JB. I immediately uninstalled it; so it's possible I couldn't get JB even if I wanted it.

.

Besides Google Now and Project Butter (which I can't notice, if anything stuff seems less smooth):

The layout of the Samsung email app is improved in lots of little ways. I live in this application for work, so I'm happy with that.

The expanding JB notifications are nice and new / updated applications are taking advantage of them more and more.

The real Swype keyboard is now preinstalled (at least on my Verizon S3). Not a big deal, but I forgot how much I like the keyboard. For me it's better than Swift keys (inc the new beta) or the stock Samsung keyboard.

The promised enhancement pack with split screen sounds awesome, I suspect updating to JB may be require for this.

I updated my AT&T GS3 to JB tonight. Seemed to go fine, except Kies is freakin slow.

So I am using my phone and it all seems to work fine, and I didn't have to factory reset or re-load all my apps or do anything annoying like that.

But as I'm using this I can't help but laugh at some of the people on here who were almost saying "I DON'T THINK I CAN LIVE ONE MORE DAY BECAUSE EACH MINUTE WITHOUT JELLYBEAN IS LIKE AN ETERNITY"

I don't really notice much difference to be honest. I guess "Project Butter" is maybe a little bit buttery, but could just be psychological. Yes there are a few more items in the dropdown menu.

Don't get me wrong....there is nothing "wrong" about JB.....I just don't get why many people were just nutso about getting it. It hasn't changed my life as far as I can tell.

Enjoy!

4.1.1 is just the first jellybean update. theres 2 more out there. 4.1.2 has the features that i wanted and thought id get on the first jb update but i guess not. and well 4.2 has a whole lotta other stuff.

The topic has been (and continues to be) discussed at length in other better threads, so I don't really see the point of this one, unless its purpose is to just mock and/or provoke other people with a rather trollish thread title.

I've been following along here and everyone seems to be behaving themselves ;) :).

I think the OP was simply frustrated when he chose that title...no biggie.

There are thousands of improvements with JB throughout the OS. There is no reason to not upgrade to it.

I am sure you are correct about bunches (probably not thousands) of improvements, I am just looking for 1 or 2 that I actually care about and is worth the risk of breaking the things I do care about: my time, ibolt car dock working, syncing with Mac for music / calendar / file transfers.

So far, reading through these threads, I see nothing of value to me that is worth the risk. I would actually like to do it if I can find any logical reason to do so. I realize opinions abound (e.g. seems more buttery), but can someone give or point me to a list of problems with ICS that JB is confirmed to have actually solved.

Wasn't "trolling" or "mocking".....just meant what I said (I always do)....I watched several months of threads where many people were basically asking every day, or every hour, when JB was coming, and they were getting testy with AT&T or Samsung or whomever for not releasing it quickly enough. I, of course, was somewhat interested as well, to the point that I'd check these boards every week or so just to see whether there was anything new re: AT&T. I had never successfully received the original OTA AT&T update and never bothered to go into a store and swap SIM cards, so I figured I'd just wait for JB.

My post here was basically just an observation....after I got around to updating via KIES late one night, and then using the new JB, I just chuckled that it didn't seem, to me at least, the sort of thing where someone should be getting mad that it's not out yet or posting as if their very life depended on receiving JB for their phone. I guess given all the breathless posts from others, I was expecting a little more sizzle or something. That's all.

Thanks

Others can weigh in but I don't think there are huge "risks" to updating via KIES. This is not the same "risk" as flashing your phone with a custom ROM after rooting around in there. I guess there is always a risk in life but this process seemed pretty automated.

The only advice I'd give is WAIT while KIES does its thing. The first time I tried, it went through an initial download of the "components" for the upgrade, then it did nothing and didn't seem to report that it was doing anything either (no hourglass, no little spinning wheel, no "I'm thinking" text etc). So I closed out of it after a few minutes and wondered what I did wrong.

Tried it again, and it did the same thing. This time I just went and refilled my drink, and waited. And waited a little more. And finally, as if awakened from its narcolepsy, KIES proceeded to install JB on the phone. So you just gotta wait on it. Can't say it's the world's most user-friendly app since it could tell you that it is waiting, or thinking, or sleeping, or taking the trash out, or whatever it is doing during those many minutes where it seems like it quit........ but it did work just fine in the end.

Well one should assume that when they come out with a new operating system that it will be improved on the older one and have some new cooler features. I'm not so sure that's the case with JB.

Out of all the issues I had with ICS the only thing on JB that was really fixed was the LED flashing and color issue. Then lots of things that are different but not necessarily improved upon. And then a few minor (or major) things that used to work but don't anymore.

As far as technology goes, I really want to like Google Now, but I'm keeping an eye on my battery. So without that, there's really not a huge benefit in switching (to me at least). I don't know why they had to make it such a huge deal instead of just making Google Now available on the Play Store for those who want it and have a minor operating system update.
