Root [ROM]Stock 3.15.651.16 Odex/Deodex (Jelly Bean) + Firmware

Any thoughts here as to whether us Stock Rooters should be going with XhausX's or Viperboy's rom?

I saw where Xhausx had flashable pieces of the firmware. As far as the rom though, Viperboy and OMJ both have roms out. It looks like the mods are coming for the Deodexed versions at this point and they both offer one, so I'd go with that version for now.

edit: Now I see that X has both versions of the stock rom out as well! :) Hard to keep up with this stuff.

Early had me flash a different h boot after lazy panda so i could use bootloader, I think, ler me find that. was in lazy panda thread/

edit: wrong, was thinking of this I guess.

Step 4: Updating to LazyPanda 1.12.2222

"Almost done! Now that you have s-off, it is recommended that you update your hboot to Lazy Panda 1.12.222. This will enable a working fastboot.

1.use the PJ75IMG.zip file you downloaded earlier
2.transfer the file over to the external sd card (/sdcard2 aka /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd) via usb cable
3.Make sure that fastboot is disabled, settings>power>uncheck fastboot, power the phone off.
4.power+volume down to turn on
5.the bootloader should find the file and load it and ask you to accept the flash, if not, select fastboot using the volume keys to scroll, tap power to select
6.press vol up to flash it
7.press power to boot when prompted
8.delete the PJ75IMG file from the sd card"

Hey just a heads up on this, flashed this last night, no issues....at first, then tried to restore apps and settings from Titanium backup, to no avail:-( got stuck at htc/beats screen after running Titanium. No major issue, just nand back and back on mean.
Thought I'd let folks know.
Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, but it's a dusty one so I don't know if it applies. I seem to recall you can change your device id in Titanium and in general, you don't want to do that. That wouldn't cause a booting issue.

I promise that restoring settings is a no-go. I found that out the hard way as well. If you can get it to boot, it will endlessly loop on the launcher startup.

It's always been my opinion, don't restore any system info between roms. Even if its an update of the same Rom. Just start clean and set everything up how you like it instead of restoring it.

Certain apps I start clean with too. Games I'll restore the data, but any app that uses system or network resources I don't.

This seems to help me from having issues. :)

Hopefully I'm making sense.

That makes sense granite, thanks :D

Even though I have Pro and can batch restore all my apps and data I don't and feel this is a bad idea. Things just never seem to quite work right whenever you do that. For me, I: flash the new ROM, activate WiFi, install Titanium backup. Then I go through my backed up apps one by one in Titanium Backup and restore data like text messages, call log and such in addition to manually restoring app+data ONLY on the apps that would be too difficult or time consuming to adjust settings. The rest I install direct from the market and then manually adjust settings. Ever since I started doing this my life has been MUCH better. Just because something is automated doesn't always make it better/easier.

I'm kind of lazy, and hate having to put everything back the way it was after flashing a new rom :D, so setting up titanium has always worked well, including restoring the android id. But I'll try it your way :)

If you have weird little bugs and issues after flashing ROMs (I know I did) then it's likely not the ROM. I too just thought that's how 3rd party ROMs were and thought it was to be expected. Then, once I started doing what I described above, I'm amazed with how stable some ROMs actually are. It really only takes a couple of extra minutes (I have over 300 items backed up to sort through to restore too) to restore manually and will likely save you time and frustration down the road. This is also why I don't do a lot of ROM testing now. I rooted my LTE Evo the day it came out and kept the stock ROM onboard until the other day when I flashed the Jelly Bean version of the stock ROM and have no plans to flash another ROM on this phone for the duration of it's life unless the next OS update is pushed from Sprint before I buy another phone. The factory OS is mature to the point where I personally don't feel the need to get a highly customization 3rd party ROM to get the functionality I want. That's saying a lot for Google's OS actually.

I flashed this on Saturday along with the firmware eveything was fine but today I tried to send a screenshot and they got the mms it was unable to be read it was all blurry I tried again later and it was the same. I can see and read everything fine so I know its not the pic its self. If anybody has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Thank u

Send one to someone else to verify it isn't network related issues on their end

As of now, viperboy's stock rooted rom is now based off of the unreleased RUU, rather than the OTA.

Either result _should_ be the same - but because you never know when blending two sources, the RUU is known correct.

Cheers. :)

So does that mean it contains the firmware built in? I really do enjoy how when you flash this ROM the kernel installs automatically when you are S-ON.
