This forum is DEAD

I love that this thread has developed into the topic that's bugging me the most lately with the throttle news. I'm like a mad man, setting up profiles with my Llama app (phenomenal app, you should check it out) to switch off my data connection and turn on wifi wherever possible, etc.

I was in my glory until that text came out; streaming music & running Nav apps simultaneously. Now I'm obsessively checking my data usage, downloading music to the device rather than streaming on Google Music, etc. Sigh. My dreams were shattered lol. But I'm glad to see a lot of active threads about possible ways around it and will be staying tuned!

And to the OP... I agree and go through phases where I'll hop on this forum for days in a row and it's just crickets and tumbleweed. I think it's a great group here as well - I much prefer the friendly demeanor here as opposed to other forums. I do participate on some xda threads but people are more "personable" here.

I'm guilty of not posting/replying as much as I'd like on this forum...

I am having brain surgery on January 2nd (seriously), so I've been a bit preoccupied with all of that! But I'm sure during my recovery I'll have PLENTY of time to read and post. So if you guys are going to post, be sure to do it around then so I have something to keep me occupied during recovery!!! :)

Thumbs up for our community here!
Wow, I had brain surgery on Jan. 6 of last year. It made Christmas very stressful. Fortunately, I have recovered amazingly well, but not without difficulty. May God bless you and your loved ones. I will pray for you.

Sending PM now so we don't get the thread off track onto a 3rd new topic :D Maybe you can share some some tips/tricks on recovery (I've got the "lay in bed and do nothing" part down pat lol!!)

THANK you for the reply Mechman.

Nice collecting. Paranoid android is a good one to. There is also one called touched by sg3 that is really nice and fast as well. I am currently on the last one, it's really nice. I will link them for anyone that wants them when I get home, or you can do a search. Both are on xda forums, under the epic 4g touch android development section.

If you could grab the links for me at some point (no need for another pre-holiday rush ok), I would be most appreciative. :)

I added paranoid android and touched by sg3 to my post :)

Nice nice.
Those listed are pretty much most of the popular ones that people are useing. There are others out there but those are the list of the what seems the good and popular ones used.

I've tried most of that list and landed on touched By sg3. For me it seems the fastest and smoothest over all.
They are all very comparable though, so enjoy, and flash away.

Sorry I got busy, holidays and all, but codegerm beat me to it :).
Thanks CG

Overall from FK23 and up the battery life is better and the smoothness seems to be nicer too.

As for what kernel ta use, it really is preference. The only real differences in the Fk23 and up kernels and modems are minor changes I'm sure. People get the notion that Fl16 vs FK23 there is some huge magical difference in the 2, and there isn't. It's probably jut a minor tweak they have made and adjusted and maybe the fact their trying out different modem settings to get gps to work better, I don't really know the changes as does anyone else, because there is no change log. What I can say and know for certain there isn't some magical or massive change in all the versions. It seems to vary with each person as to what modem they use, but other than that, there really isn't much change that I can see.
It's not a huge change like it was from say FI22 to FK23, and that's a given because we are going from ICS to JB, so that is bound to be a huge change. Just don't get your heart set on the same change from FK23 and up, it's not that big really

I personally stuck with FK23 because it is proven to be the most stable, and most of the roms are based on FK23 as well. I'm not about to flash a kernel/rom/modem every 2 days. Only way I would ever do that is if I was testing for someone.

Ok, I only have a second to toss this out, but here's what we're going to do.

I'm going to take your root forum guide back to the old school way that we used to roll with, that never failed us before.

I'll ensure that the first part has our usual helpful, generic stuff.

Then, I'll follow it up, using magic, with posts from you cats who know what they're doing, and you'll be able to maintain your own recommendations.

Then I'm going to leave it open, not locked like it's ours and not yours so you can all collaborate on it for the life of your phone.

You will get lost posts in there going off-topic and asking questions. Just report those if we don't catch them first, and mods will keep it plenty clean for you.

I'll have to do that after the holiday, sorry.

If anyone does not like this plan, let me know, we just want to see root happiness here. Like my signature says, it's our forum - that means that you call the ball, and we'll serve it up the way you want. ;)

Safe and joyful holidays to all! :)

Sound great to me. This is a great phone and I love this forum.

alpha2k, I am on FK23 too I find it very smooth/ fast and stable. I haven't tried FL04 or FL16 yet, but I imagine they are only minor tweaks, maybe a adjustment to signal gain or tower search interval, etc. they came out too close together to be a major rewrite or anything. I might get the ripple effect thing though as it sounds cool.

Thanks brother! :)
Surgery went well... Recovery has been a b**** but that was expected.
You guys really have been keeping me sane; I've been on here tons and having a cool group to discuss things with makes a world of difference! I'm glad there's been a good amount of activity on the forums to keep things interesting.

Thanks man that made my day.
