Help Motorola Photon restarting randomly

Sorry, I can't help, but you're not alone. My Photon has been having random restarts for a long time. I always assumed it was one of my root apps, but never nailed it down. If I did have the energy to try troubleshooting it, I would probably try freezing/uninstalling any questionable app, then I'd defrost/reinstall them one at a time.

In other threads, I've seen people advised to do a system reset to fix this issue. That's not an option for me thanks to ROM Manager having screwed up my phone.

My Photon was re-starting over and over and I finally had to do a complete factory reset.. No problems since. It started after I updated FoxFi and I thought maybe that was causing it, but have since re-installed FoxFi and it still seems to be fine.. only thing I can think is that I didn't delete the original FoxFi (as per instructions) and that was causing it, but after reading this post I'm starting to think it was something else.

In my experience random reboots are either something that's broken in the android kernel (in which case a factory reset is usually the only solution), a misbehaving app (removing it can often fix it), or a faulty battery. If you can't pinpoint an app and your battery seems decent (good life, doesn't get super hot, etc) then a factory reset is probably the next thing to try.

It seems feasible to me that a reset won't even solve this issue, depending on the cause. A reset doesn't replace all system files as they were originally. I had my Photon rooted, with a custom boot animation (bootanimation.zip). After several resets, the custom boot animation is still there. Also, problems caused by my least-favorite app developer are still there.
