Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

im not having any battery issues. my serious issue is with bluetooth. it doesnt work at all anymore. it wont recognize any devices near it, and other devices cant find my phone.

the other two minor issues i'm having are with voicemail and the proximity sensor.

i called my guy at sprint and he told me to try a hard reset to see about fixing the bluetooth issue. i didnt think that would help but i did it last night. it didnt work. i told him today and he said he would order me a new phone.

if you havent upgraded to jb just yet...i would wait until they fix these issues first.

It's nothing to do with google. I had changed those setting already and did two factory restores. Took it into a sprint store and the repair guy was dumbfounded and found out that it was a known problem. I am getting a replacement evo because my wifi doesnt work at all.

I just unchecked GPS Satellites in the Location Settings. Google's Location Service is still checked(only one checked). Just charged my phone and 12 minutes on battery. I know the usage must total 100% obviously and so far Maps is not showing up. I have Bookmark(40), Android System(35), Android OS(7), Messages(5), Wi-Fi(11) and Idle(2). I know if I refresh it will change, but this could be promising for the battery. I also have power saver on, so I will report back in a day or so and let everyone know.

Maybe try suggestion from CyreneK?

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I consistently get "messages have stopped working" when receiving MMS. I'm using Chomp, but I get the message if I open with stock as well. I'm not rooted and I did a factory reset 3 days ago. Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: figured out it was because I didn't disable autoretreive MMS in stock.
Sent from my EVO LTE using Tapatalk 2

I've encountered an issue with my stock messaging app. I sometimes get a "Messaging has stopped working. Report problem to HTC?" sort of message. Anyone know what I can do to resolve this?

Other than not being able to mute the camera sounds JB has been solid.

Funny thing about all this camera focus/shutter sounds.
Last night I was taking a picture of my car and I get no focus or shutter sounds anymore. I don't know if I haven't noticed it before but my GF noticed it cause her GS3 makes noises. My media volume was turned down all the way so I turned it up and it didn't change the camera sounds.

Right now, it makes focus and shutter sounds with volume up or down. WTF.

During this holiday season, we were all hoping to get a gift of improved service and functionality for our HTC EVO 4G LTEs. This lengthy string of comments suggests that we have gotten less, and, in some situations, degradation of functionality. We can hope that the powers that be at both Sprint and HTC are monitoring this thread and provide, sooner than later, a real upgrade for our EVO 4G LTEs.

Best wishes for a Healthy and Happy Holiday season for all!!!

I had this exact same issue on ICS so I don't think it is necessarily a JB issue. Mine worked fine for months and then stopped connecting to anything and could not be found. Sprint ended up getting me a replacement which works perfectly.

My battery life has gone to complete crap. Getting 8 hours on the high side and today was under 5. Haven't changed any apps since the upgrade so I really don't think they are it. Just did a factory reset, will see if that fixes it. Notifications for me are still fixed which is a huge positive but the lack of battery time is a serious issue.

My battery life went to crap as well but a Factory Reset and turning off Google Now put me back to normal. I can't say which one did the trick.

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Second of all, I think you made it to the right place so good job! However I just want to make sure that you are in fact using the Evo 4G LTE and not the S3 or another device.

For everyone's convenience here is the thread that you reference :)
Androidforums.com | Samsung Galaxy S 3 4G LTE (International) - Jelly Bean removed haptic feedback control!?!
I find it strange that you have noticed that your settings are greyed out. If I had to suppose, I would think there is some other application or keyboard interfering with your system haptic control.

Some others have noticed that in Jelly Bean that every application can have its own haptic control independent of the system setting - so if you are having trouble with a specific application's vibration you need to look in that applications settings or contact the application developer.

For clarifications sake, here are the default locations for controlling vibration feedback in HTC's version of the Jelly Bean system:

  • Settings -> Sound -> General heading; Vibrate (sound must be on to change this setting)
  • Settings -> Sound -> System heading; Vibrate on touch (haptic feedback for back, home, and multitask-app button below the screen)
  • Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Vibration Feedback
  • Settings -> Language & keyboard -> Swype -> Preferences -> Vibrate on keypress (will be greyed out if the system setting is off)
  • Settings -> Language & keyboard -> any other keyboard you may have installed

P.S. your post will probably be merged/moved into our general Jelly Bean discussion thread for further discussion. Do not be alarmed if your thread disappears from the topic list. ;)

Thanks Pyro!

So yes, my device is the HTC EVO 4G LTE and to be more clear the haptic feedback issue I'm facing is for my keyboard as well as bottom three buttons (back, home, recent apps).

Settings -> Sound -> General heading; Vibrate -- ON (Says vibration feedback for calls)

Settings -> Sound -> System heading; Vibrate on touch OFF AND GREYED OUT

Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Vibration Feedback -- OFF AND GREYED OUT

Settings -> Language & keyboard -> Swype (Never use swype so greyed out; n/a)

Settings -> Language & keyboard -> any other keyboard you may have installed (No other keyboard installed; /a)

:thinking::thinking::thinking:

I think I've checked ALL those places and more just to see if I'm crazy and anywhere there's a vibrating option for my keyboard it's greyed out EXCEPT for my security lock. I use the pattern lock and the "vibrate on touch" option is ungreyed and still checked like it was pre-jellybeaning. I've noticed a few more issues but I'll search the forum first to see if anyone else noticed!

Thanks again. :)

Only first day since reset so not a trend but does appear to be better. Off the charger 3 hours and at 85% which is much better than it was. I do have the connection and battery optimizers off along with Google Now disabled. We'll see how it goes over the next couple days.

Oh also forgot to mention that I Wiped the Cache from recovery Menu.

Ok I am not sure if I read you correctly but when you use a security lock it is all greyed out but when you use a pattern lock you can select Vibrate on Touch?
Sik,
Sorry if I'm being more confusing than necessary. The only vibrating options I am in control of that are not greyed out:
- security screen lock vibration
- turning volume down to vibrate only

Apps that use vibration are working just fine.

Ahh Ok I gotcha (I am slow from all the "Special" egg nog). I just tested it and when you have Power Saver on these options are greyed out. Do you have Power Saver on?
Haha as you should be! And I thought that could have been a solution..but even when it's turned off and no longer in my headline I still see grey =\
I'm convinced the update hates me..T~T

Oh and now that my post has been moved to the correct topic, another issue I've noticed:
People receiving my text messages (both mms and sms) that have more than 160 chars are only seeing the 1st message. It'll tell them "Message 1 of 2" or something of the like but they never get the rest of it. I've sent to fellow sprint-users, to verizon, and to tmobile..different phones too..maybe it's just a sign I should text less? >_<

Hoping I'm not the only one on this either..!

I noticed that my vibration options were also greyed out in settings after the update, but when I factory reset, they were all restored. I was told that if there is even the slightest interruption in wifi during the installation process of an update, things can get screwed up, but a factory reset will fix the issues.
