Jelly Bean 4.2.1 on SGS2

ive been running 4.2.1 vsync build by mcm for the past week or so

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891222

the rom is fantastic, ive tried all 3 kernels, siyah v4 very smooth, siyah v5 seemed to chew my battery for fun, stock kernel suits my device best.

mcm is a very active dev and we seem to get cherry picked updates on a daily basis.

IMO even in its early stages 10.1 is smoother, far more responsive than i could ever get on cm10

EDIT : Merry Xmas all

Edit: i also found out that i had too root from my first backup, because when i tried to install new rom or kernel when i was running the leaked version 4.1.2 and rooted, it faild all the time

Using rootbox 3.3.1 Android 4.2.1 on my S2 I9100 for past few days, nice and relatively bug free compared to other 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 roms.

Only downside is lower battery life and i think it's to do with kernel and cpu states in 4.2.1 in general.

S2 I9100 Optus Australia + Mugen 3200mah battery
  • Stock 4.0.4 LQ6 = average 60-90hrs with up to 8hrs screen time 24/7 wifi
  • Rootbox 4.2.1 LQ6 = average 17.5 to 18.5 hrs with 5.5 hrs screen time and 24/7 wifi

Clawing my way back with setcpu profiles for some commonly played games and apps reducing their speed from 200-1200mhz min/max ondemand governor to 200-800mhz for specific apps and 1000mhz for everyday general. On current battery usage patterns I might now get 22-25hrs with Rootbox 4.2.1 LQ6.

I went from

Stock non-root 4.0.4 LQ6 > Siyah 4.1.5 kernel root > Rootbox 3.3.1 Android 4.2.1.

have not tried the rootbox version of 4.2.1 so cant comment on it

thats pretty bad battery usage youve got right there, im getting more than that on stock battery.Ive been testing different kernels and have come to the conclusion that siyah V5 is the best all rounder.

cm10i9100vsync - Browse /kernel at SourceForge.net

Download from there, latest version from this morning is already up.

also download media scan root allow your phone an hour or so read all the files, recharge, reboot, and then disable media scanning with it https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5hZGR6Lm1lZGlhc2Nhbm5lcnJvb3QiXQ..

I found that media scanner was the worst culprit for battery drain
