I'm considering buying the dna and I haven't seen anything regarding the speaker on the phone. I currently have a rezound and the speaker is poor and quiet. The speaker on the gs3 is wicked loud and I was wondering how loud it can be and how clear. Can any dna owner give their 2 cents?

DNA volume is lower than expected. Thunderbolt is louder. DNA volume from 0-7% doesn't seem to change sounds until around 40-50%, then at 100% not impressive at all. Especially youtube very low. Some streaming are louder than others. Headphones with DNA unmatched and very impressive even with Beats Audio disabled powerful and of course very powerful enabled. I use Neutron Music Player, combined with Beats Audio, IMHO unbeatable combo. You will probably have to rely on the Vibracall as the ringtones and notification tones are not loud enough to be noticed. Have yet to do an mp3 ringtone yet. My wife's droid Razr is plenty loud. I am a bit dissappointed in the loud speaker volume for music and video, however loud speaker is good for calls. Hope this helps. Btw DNA is the dopest. Battery is impressive, surprisingly. I can watch a movie for an hour(stream) and only use 10-12%. Can and have been getting 15 plus hrs. Hard to kill and have yet to kill...

I agree the speaker needs to be louder in both video/audio playback and in ring/notification tones.

I've contacted HTC about this and so should you. This could be fixed with a simple software update.!!!!
You call or email? I'm surprised that no one has said or complained about volumes. Good to know it's not just me. I was starting to feel alone as it pertains to less than impressive audio volumes. I was expecting it to be much louder especially claiming the 2.5v amp was for internal and external. Seems just for headphones. Should we start a separate thread to see who else is with us?

You make a good point. They made a big deal about having separate amps for the headset and the speaker during the launch announcement. I had forgotten about that. Considering that, the speaker volume is not overly impressive for sure.

Again for me overall, it is sufficient in most cases, just not overly loud ..

I just got the dna and yeah its better than most but I agree with the majority of you. Htc always has poor volume on their speakers. By far the worst was the incredible 2. Ring tones for me come in loud its just some audio playback is less than par. Overall I do like it. Very crisp and clear. I think I might send an email to Htc as well

Speaker volume sucks bad on this thing. I've missed a couple of calls adjusting to the poor volume. I came from a Razr Maxx/Bionic/Droid X...my first HTC phone. I depend on my phone alarm to wake me up for work, i go back to dayshift soon. Hopefully i'll be able to hear it. Don't be fooled by Beats label, it only works well when playing through bluetooth or connected to external speaker.

In my Otterbox debacle I had the case off and had a call from work. I noticed that the speaker volume was Meh which puzzled me. When the case was ON it was pretty loud. I usually have to turn it down a bit.

The difference? On the Ottebox, the speaker cut out kinda looks like a megaphone and its about 5-6mm deep. So might be a fortunate byproduct of the case.

BTW, Otterbox still cannot for the life of them ship a front screen cover. I have THREE full cases...minus the front screen cover. I just want my dog gone screen cover!

Ive had a problem with my speaker since day one, if I try to lower the volume past the midway point it doesn't do anything. The volume goes straight from mute to midway, and once it gets past midway on the meter, it gets louder, but below midway, it just sounds exactly the same. :/ just an fyi. Its not a problem for me because i never use the speakers because using the 2.5 watt amp in the phone makes my headphones (off my head) louder than the speaker
