I seem to be missing the mark with these devices. The first one, 7", Sent back do to a battery issue, needed charged constantly, finally replaced it about a month later for one that seems to work and stay charged better.
I get myself a paperwhite, to find it has some glitching issues where it will jump to the end of the book at times when I go to the next page. Still not a huge issue, but annoying. I got my dad a paper white, I hope it don't have the same issue, or a fix is coming soon, he is not tech inclined at all. We will see.
Then I got a 8.9" fire HD for my mom, got it when it was on sale, open it up, get it set up and load a sample book up to give her a quick overlook of the device and first thing that catches my eye is a white spot slightly smaller then an pencil eraser. When in portrait mode, the bright smudge is near the bottom of the page, very visible in the white pages of a book, in landscape, it will be in the text.
I know this is not my kindle and my mom will be using it the most, but I suspect the spot may interfere with her books, games and movies. And knowing the spot is there is going to annoy me, because if I pick the device up, I will automatically look for it.
If I send it back, I suspect it would be around 2 weeks before we get another. A refund where I can pick one up at best buy, well, I used my amazon card. On top of this, gift cards where bought for content on both the fire for my mom and the paperwhite (books only) for my dad.
Sure, they can use the apps on the android tablet, but that is mostly for books. I would need to install the amazon app store for apps (but its limited) and getting tv shows and movies, is nil.
3 kindles, two fires with issues, a paperwhite (one so far, mine) that jumps pages at times), this really puts a downer on things.
Sorry to vent, but this is annoying. I know these devices are built cheap, and amazon makes its money through services and content, this kind of put a damper on things.
