Light Flow customization

Light Flow continues to be one of my favorite apps bar none. The more I delve into it and customize it, the better I like it. I just wish my phone could display more colors and allow even more use. But I get 7 different colors and even though I have them all assigned, I really only use a few on a regular basis.

Recently I went over to have Light Flow control the notification sounds for those assigned a color. This is very handy as I can now tell without even seeing the notification light color what the notification is. I like that it also has a few different ways to control the volume since no two notification sounds has the same volume.

The newest thing I'm experimenting with though is the light flash duration. I didn't like the default one, or for that matter any of the other stock speeds. But not to worry - Light Flow let's you customize your flash rate (both on and off) with great ease. I've experimented with quite a few and so far the best setting is 50,3000 (50 millisecond flash, 3 second pause).

I'm wondering if there are others out there who have experimented with different flash rates and if so, what have you found you like the best. Also, is there any other types of customization you have tried and like?

To those who have searched for and found this thread as means of checking out if Light Flow is a program worth having, it really is a great program!

I really enjoy lightflow as well.

I do use a custom flash rate as well. I found that I like 1000,750 best. I wouldn't like 50,3000 at all as then I'd have to stare at my phone for up to 3 seconds to confirm whether I had a notification or not. To each their own, which is why it's such a nice application.

I wish there was a way to override app notifications rather than have to turn them off in the app itself. For example, with the ESPN app, there's NO way to disable audio and vibrate notifications. I was hoping that setting audio to silent and vibrate to none in lightflow would suppress those notifications. The developer of lightflow (who is very responsive) confirmed that's not the case and they have to be shut off first in the app or you'll get double notifications.

Also, FWIW, I see no evidence of lightflow using significant battery power (at least not once Samsung fixed the notifications on US phones with the JB update). I know that's a frequent complaint of lightflow.

Light Flow is fantastic and one of the best selling points of Android customization through third-party apps in my opinion. I tell everyone I can about it and show it off often.

I do honestly have concerns though that it does not work 100% of the time. There are times when I get a text and get my alert tone but no notification light. This does not happen frequently enough for me to look for alternatives, but it is noticeable.

One thing that may be an issue is that when I leave Messaging open (the stock messaging app) and the screen goes to standby, I will get the alert no light incident.

Overall, love it!

I have very little trouble with Lightflow, and being impatient I don't a use a blink rate at all, but instead have it set to stay in steadily, and when multiple notifications come through it'll cycle at maximum speed.

I have on occasion noted some quirkiness with the light notifications. Usually only with one program so far at least, Jorte - my calendar program for some reason is not giving me the notifications. But I'm having some other problems with that program as well that I am trying to work through so I want to get that all worked out before I start tweaking LF. I do on rare occasion let a glitch with the lights, like today one program seemed to go back to the standard flash rate for some reason but then corrected itself.

Overall though, the problems are very few and the helpfulness is great. I also have not noted any excessive battery drain from the program. I have not run into the dual notification problem as all my programs currently default to off for notifications. I have none apparently that are on all the time and cannot be shut off.

I prefer Light Manager as it allows me to control the charging & charged LED functions as well.

My version of lightflow has notification settings for Charged battery and Charging battery.

That doesn't work on your phone?

I was going to say the same thing. Light Flow now has those settings as well. I test drive both originally and ended up going with LF.

I'm busy working on changes for the next release to improve the odd occasion where it stops and doesn't notify. Android can kill apps at any point and at the moment it doesn't always recover that well until you re enter the app. Progress is going well on this, but needs a bit more work before releasing.

Hey Andrew! Great to see a dev chiming in on their program and keeping us updated on improvements. Funny you should mention stoppages, right after I posted this thread I had a couple but both were problems on my end. I also figured out the problem I was having with my Jorte notification and that was also on my end.

I do get the occasional stoppage but it's always at the end of a heavy use day and a reboot fixes it. Keep up the good work. Light Flow is a great program and my favorite by far!
