Does your Nexus 4 slide off of flat surfaces?

I recently upgraded to a Nexus 4 from a Gnex. I usually place my phone on top of the PC sitting beside my computer desk, and when I do this with my Nexus 4, it randomly falls off the PC. I guess that the slippery glass back of the phone makes the whole thing slide whenever it vibrates.

As it is, I'm tired of finding my Nexus 4 on the floor, so I'm either going to have to put a case on it, or find somewhere else to charge it, I guess :argh:

There's no reason for you not to have a case in my opinion.

That's not a good valid answer, some people don't like using cases. Most phones that you would put on a table wouldn't slide off any surface without a case, not even an iPhone 4 or 4S

However for some reason the nexus 4 is very slippery...My advice to the OP is the poetic bumper which doesn't add heft or increase the size of the phone nearly as much as the Google bumper from the play store, most of the other cases on the market make the phone fairly thick.

Ya slippery as heck. When I first got it it was stunning how many times it would randomly fall on the floor.
I guess the back is less slippery now as it doesnt do it so often. Must say the back is terribly made, it looks nice at first but scratches to oblivion in no time, and got a big crack through it just by putting it on a cold surface.

I didn't get the phone as a status symbol which is the only reason I could think of for not going with a case so I don't care if people know I have a nexus4 or not.

Obviously it's your phone so there's no requirement to use one but logically the phone IS made out of glass (the back half of which is not gorilla glass) so I just personally don't see a reason to not use a case.

I've never used a bumper before, would that keep the phone from slipping?

Meh, I don't like cases, since these phones are big/heavy enough as it is, and cases make them even thicker and heavier, and can sometimes be a PITA to stick in car mounts and cradles. For this reason, I always go bareback and haven't had an issue so far (knock on wood).

I generally am pretty good about not dropping phones, but if I should happen to do so and crack the screen (or whatever), it's not the end of the world, since paying another $350 (or the cost of repairs) isn't a huge deal for me, and I still have the Gnex as a backup phone. Not like if I crashed my car or something :)

Yep it's a bit slippery. Even on a surface that seems level...

I could use the official Bumper that I got for it but after using it for a week I removed it and realized how easier it is to use without it.

Personally i'm not going to moan about the materials LG used for the phone. I'll just pop the bumper back on or be careful what surface I place it on.

I keep it on plain smooth surfaces all the time and it has never just slid off on its own. I don't think that just happens if the surface is flat and your phone isn't constantly vibrating.

That said, if it's happening to you, yes, getting a case will help it gain greater friction on surfaces.

It might help to get one of those old neoprene mouse pads at a thrift store and place that on your PC as a non-slip mat for the phone.

I have to admit, I'm surprised just how many times I find my phone on the carpet when it's been left charging on a low glass table, even the slightest incline seems to allow it to gradually slide off. It's just super slippy!

I had to take the back protector off the phone because it started peeling anyway after around one day of usage.

Also, I'm another user who's never wanted to use a case on any of my smart phones as it typically adds unwanted bulk for something I don't intend being rough with.

It's not used as a status symbol - who doesn't have a phone?

It's the extra bulk and the fact that I like a phone with a nice design that means that I don't want to use a case.

However, I read your post regarding the back glass. Have we confirmation that the back is not gorilla glass? I may revert to carrying my phone around in a Pull-Tab case and leaving it naked when in use...

EDIT:

On the other hand, what about something like the Zagg system just for the back:

I was never perfectly happy with these but have not used one in a while. Anyone with a recent experience to report?

Nope. I've got a TPU case that I paid 3.49 for and it's the best!!! The cheap TPU cases offer the best grip and they're the STICKIEST.....really I can set my N4 on an almost vertical surface and it will stay glued :) Like hot rubber.

Wave S-line case or something like that. Offers more protection and more grip than the more expensive alternatives.

I'm with you on rocking a naked device....but man....it's a Nexus 4....if you break it it's not like you can run out and get another or hop online and get one in 2 days either.

You have to treat the bast@rd like a baby unicorn.

Like my girlfriend I keep my Nexus naked indoors and put clothes on her when we go out.....If you don't you're asking for trouble...

What about when guests come over?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

ON TOPIC AGAIN...

I spent an hour walking around one of the largest malls we have here in Ontario, and couldn't find a slip case/pouch anywhere. Everyone has shells or screen protectors. UGH!

Like you, I prefer to use my phone in its birthday suit, and protect it when not in use in a sleeve/pouch.

I guess I'll have to order one online, and until it comes I'm using one I made myself yesterday. it's made out of 100% real Calvin Klein sock.

Yo! that sock is ILL son!
You got paypal?
10 bucks and I want a pair :)

Edit: I really wanted to rock the Nexus naked but it feels too sleek, slick, sexy, and too premium to not have a case on it.

Edit 2: Thanks for making me rummage through my sock drawer :)

I use a phone pouch I ordered from Amazon.... Its the Krussell 3XL LUNA pouch/sleeve. I got frustrated checking out Radio Shacks and carriers. Anyway, Its a very tight fit at first but after a few hours of my Nexus 4 in it to help it break in, its a much better fit. Its more like a firm tight where you can now pull it out without struggling.

Just placed my order. 8 - 16 days to ship. Fingers crossed. Thanks!

Two separate nights...two times it slid off my counter while plugged in charging in the middle of the night. Flat surface and all. Good thing there were cords on the ground below from where I plug in everything that needs charging so they completely softened the fall. ...2nd time it fell I just afraid to even look at it. Now I plug it in and keep a book around the back part of it to prevent this. Wouldnt be surprised if it somehow found a way to navigate around and fall again its so damn slippery
