Root LTEVO ROOTING FOR DUMMIES {The Complete Guide}

OK, that sounds simple, then--much simpler than I originally thought. So once I flash, say, the RUU for hboot 1.15, then I'm good to go with Ubuntu then flashing a JB ROM, correct? :)

well you need to follow the guide on team unlimited's website. you will need ubuntu first, then in step7 you will need the ruu. just follow their directions very carefully and you should be fine.

OK. I guess where I got confused was if I had to already BE on hboot 1.15 or 1.19 in order to run Ubuntu and get S-OFF. I had thought I needed to get myself to hboot 1.15 first, THEN run Ubuntu.

ubuntu will work on any hboot.....dirty racun (RabieShot.exe)is what you run later on that needs to be at either 1.15 or 1.19 hboot. it is not needed until the next to last step. ....like i said before just follow the guide and you should be good to go:)

I'm in the same boat as Lord Vader, hboot 1.12 with an old baseband of 1.05.11.0606, and i'm using TWRP recovery. I'm still using MeanRom V1.6, so it's been a while since i've upgraded anything on this device. Currently i'm still S-ON, but i need to get everything up to par so i can flash a new JB ROM and see what's what. Is there any difference in loading an RUU to be on Hboot 1.15 vs 1.19? Is Ubuntu a MUST, i've got Linux Mint running on several other PC's that should work just the same correct?

So basically just run an RUU to be able to use the Racun method of S-Off, is that right? I really gotta catch up on this stuff. Miss a few months, and BOOM, everything you know is ancient. Now i feel old... LOL

I'm not 100% on running mint to do DirtyRacun. The devs state Ubuntu is required for the unbricker, so you'll want that confirmed up and running before you start.

For DirtyRacun, you will need to have the 1.15 or 1.19 hboot to proceed. I believe they have an RUU for either hboot available in their directions. :)

We won't post up a guide for DirtyRacun as per the devs wishes. Follow their guide, and if you hit any snags, post up your question here, or log on to the IIRC chat channel linked in their guide.

Hey so I am trying to root so I can install titanium and backup my app data before I take my phone in for a replacement. However the HTC dev site claims it will wipe your data prior to bootloader unlock. Is this going to wipe everything? How do I get around losing all of my texts, apps, and data? That is the whole point of rooting in the first place.

yes unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data. you can use mybackup pro to back up most of your stuff on to your sd card.

NOTE: Data/setting of applications can only be supported if you have a rooted phone, or if the application integrates with us.

I need my app data and settings backed up like I used to on my old EVO with titanium. I don't recall wiping everything when I rooted that phone but it's been so long since I did that...

yeah the og evo was different with unrevoked. but bootloader these days are way different and the htc dev method will wipe it. so use mybackup pro to back everything up before rooting it.

I know how to back most stuff up without root. It's app data I want backed up and mybackup pro cannot do app data without root.

I guess that just means I will have to suck it up and lose all my app data to get a fully functioning phone...

Here's what I would then do:

  1. Back up the LIST of your apps, so you'd at least know which ones you have installed.
  2. After rooting your phone and getting set to begin anew, sign in to your Google account on your phone, then go to Google Play and select in the menu "my apps" (alternatively, you can do it from Google Play in your Gmail account)
  3. After going to "my apps," re-install those that show as uninstalled or needing update. It may take you a little time, but at least you'll be able to re-install them. Note that apps you purchased (paid for) should show as purchased and may need to only be re-installed. You will NOT have to pay for them again.
