So I went for it and bought the N2

got it on lunch yesterday at BestBuy for 199.99.
It is a change from my beloved Droid X. I loved that phone but the screen was going and it was over 2 years old.

I'm waffling over whether the N2 is too big and I should have gotten the S3 but I'll give it a full week to convince me that the size difference between the two isn't an issue.

I'm impressed with its battery life and snappiness. Ran the An Tu Tu benchmark and got 1900+ which is just dandy.

So...anyway, time to read some and see if my questions have already been answered.

Ummmm, The Note 2 is $199.99 at Best Buy now? I know the Note 1 was.

Edit: I just called my local BB and all 3 carriers is still $299

Got mine at Best Buy Sunday for $249. I checked today and is back to $299. :D They also gave me a $195 credit for old cell phones and cords that I turned in...really good deal if you have old stuff sitting around. I was suprised to get that for an old Fascinate and and old Thunderbolt.

I just came from a droid x as well. The funny thing is I remember that I got the X the day it was released and every single friend of mine made fun of me because of the size of the phone. Which is even funnier now that i have the note 2. Every one of those people who busted my chops eventually bought a phone the size of the X within 6 months too.

The note 2 is definitely ridiculously large but after you use it for a day or two, it will be impossible to go back to a smaller phone. When I pick up my droid x now it seems like a kid's toy. My guess is you'll quickly get used to the size and also realize this is one of the best (if not the best) mobile device on the market.

I have some form of psychosis where I attach emotion to inanimate objects. As I type...my Droid X is looking at me from next to the N2 asking me "why...how did I fail you?"

I've placed a napkin over the X for now. I feel so guilty.

I felt guilty for a minute too. Then I kept looking at the size of the note's screen and how ridiculously fast the note was compared to the X.

Even my X understood. He knows he couldn't compete any more. Sometimes you just know when it's time to step down. He had a great run of over two years and can retire from the game with his head held high.

I missed my Nokia N900 when I moved to Android and the Note 1. It had done a sterling job. I am now looking for the time to research running it as some kind of micro server with SMS capability that can monitor my home network and text me if anything is amiss.

I loved the Note so much I thought I would not move on for years but the 2 had so much ShinyShiny added aside from the power, battery and memory boost that I felt little guilt in finding my first Note a good home (helping with the cost of the 2 of course) and introducing someone else into the wonderful world of large screen phones and the S-Pen.

I've gotten all my issues resolved. I hate ads (X was rooted) but not sure I want to root this one. It's only ads and if I can pay for the app to get rid of them that works too.

On my X (Gingerbread) I couldn't disable some apps that were interfering with others so I needed Titanium BU. Now, I can disable in system settings. :)

I rooted my Note 2 early. For a long time I was then barred from updates due to flash counter. Triangle Away has now been updated to resolve that.

I followed the mothod given by Cursed4Eva on his site. Root worked a treat with no issue except phone registering as modded so preventing OTA or Kies updates. As I say, this has now been resolved.

I have not gone with a custom ROM as yet as I have not had time to research which ones retain all the cool S-Pen and best of Samsung built in apps but I like my root for all my Tasker tasks I would not otherwise have. Oh, and Titanium Backup.

LOL!!! You'll eventually begin to feel less guilt ridden.

That it is. Still trying to get used to the larger size.

You made a great choice. After a few days don't be surprised if the Note 2 starts to appear small to you. I've had mine since launch day (10/25) and it didn't take long before I was so used to the size it started feeling small to me UNTIL I picked up a smaller phone.
