Help Issues with wifi and signal, too

Well I started this thread, did an exchange and thought the issue was resolved. But it is not. I have determined my 5 ghz frequency is more reliable, but I still get knocked off. The peeps on Pocket Legends are probably ready to kill me because my wifi seems to like to crash when we are fighting a boss.

It's getting VERY annoying that I can't resolve it and have tried everything in my power except completely resetting the router. Frankly it pisses me off I even have to take that step as a trouble shoot because virtually every other device I've ever added to this router has worked flawlessly. So to have to reset it and then put all my port forwarding, mac addresses, etc. in place is very frustrating. But at this point I don't know what else I can do. I guess that will be a project for this weekend.

You are not alone; there is nothing wrong with your router. It is the phone. Mine has done the same thing. I took it back today, they called the Motorola rep, who said there is a known issue with the new Razr's. They took out my sim card and reset it. The phone worked for about 5 minutes properly, wifi switched on and off as it should. Then, while waiting for our second Razr HD, it stopped working. They then replaced my sim card, worked until we left the store, and as soon as we got home....blah, no wifi without reboot! Now it loses wifi and bluetooth doesn't work right either. Meanwhile, the wifes new white Razr HD has worked flawlessly, without issue. So, I am going back tomorrow to get a new phone, hopefully it is hit and miss, and I will too get a good working phone. I suggest you do the same.

I have now gone through 2x Motorola Razr HD Maxx phones. My wife has an iPhone 4S, and we are both on the verizon network.

1st phone
---------
my wife's phone shows 3 bars of 3G/4G, mine, 2 bars.
my wife's phone reads 75 dBm to 85 dBm, mine, 80-90 dBm.
my phone halts data connection at a nearby stoplight while on dashboard
my phone connects to my AP at only 1 Mbps at 25 feet.
my phone needs to be 12 inches from AP to get 54 Mbps.
my T420 laptop (2012) connects @ 54 Mbps @ 25 feet
my T42 laptop (2006) connects @ 54 Mbps @ 25 feet
my iPad, iPhone, iPod, and a total of 6 laptops work just fine on this AP (LinkSys WRT54G2)
my phone sees 3-5 APs. The laptops see 6-9 APs.
voice quality is not high, suggesting a low vocoder bitrate / signal strength limitation.
my phone won't play netflix in the living room. That tears it!

2nd phone
---------
my phone again shows 2 bars
my phone won't get 4G now.
my phone shows ~100 dBm or worse for 3G or 1x networks
my phone will never go to 54 Mbps, even 6 inches from the AP, it reads only 18 Mbps
the laptops still max out the AP at 25 feet away.
my phone sees 3-5 APs. The laptops see 6-9 APs.
at least, this time I didn't even bother to remove the screen protector or register the phone !!!
to my great surprise, this phone is worse than the last one !!!

I changed my settings from Global to CDMA/LTE.
There was a 1-bar improvement in 3G/4G signal strength
But now the phone is powering up and making a spontaneous phone call every 60 seconds to *22899. The number rings and then beeps and the call fails. This is really amusing to see!!

I am getting an iPhone 5.

I don't want to live my life at 1 or 2 bars of signal strength, when there is a clear existence proof (iPhone 4S) that there are better phones on the market.

This is really getting me irked. Wifi will not stay on, wife has no problem with her iPhone 4S and I had no problems with my old HTC EVO. I even upped my data plan by 1G because I was constantly on 4G w/o checking to see if wifi was working.

Considering going to the Verizon store for an exchange, but really don't want to go thru the setup again, much less loading apps, etc. I thought these phones had the best radios, why is this happening?

You might want to try a few tricks that solved my wifi issues on my old DX. The RMHD has been a champ for me and a new router probably helps.

If your router is dual band, get onto your router setup screen and disable the 5GHz band.

Try wifi lock apps. I used REGPON, but there are plenty to choose from. Search for "force wifi" in the Play Store.

If you are in an area with competing wifi routers, try an app called "Best wifi" which obviously locks in the best signal available.

Hope this helps.

I know this thread is a couple of months old, buuuut...I was having the exact same issues and after going through two RAZR MAXX's, found a thread somewhere that said our phones sometimes don't play nice with certain routers, more specifically those that broadcast in wireless N (draft). So I looked mine up and sure enough, it broadcasts in N (draft). I went to wally world and , being skeptical, bought a regular cheap router that broadcasts full wireless N, and lo and behold, no more WiFi on/off issues!

Don't know if I got lucky or if I'm on to something, but it worked. Now, this was with ICS, and JB OTA may have fixed this all together.
