Root [Sprint/Cricket] Confession.... I am an idiot! PSA about flashing

Well DBF got his GS3 in the mail yesterday. I activated/rooted/and was loaded a ROM. After I did that it was prompting to do a factory update! So I guessed the ROM was iffy and not blocking those. So I quickly googled "Best GS3 ROMS" downloaded one and started flashing it.

I am an idiot for rushing.... I just tried to flash an international ROM onto his phone and now it's dead. Deader than dead! Won't charge, won't turn on, has no life at all. He had his phone for less than 3 hours before I killed it! I feel like an giant @$$

I ordered a Jig thing from ebay and am really hoping it will let me get to the recovery so I can try to fix this. Hoping this isn't going to be a $400 mistake on my part. From now on I am only going to install ROMS through the ROM Manager! That should hopefully be idiot proof.

Guess I now have a few days to figure out how to work this Jig thing to try and fix it.

Oh wow! I'm sorry about that. If you look in the sticky I put together a ROM list for the Sprint SGS3 only. It's a pretty huge list going all the way back to CM9 (why do I still have that up there, I don't really know, lol). I hope the Jig helps fix the phone. :/

Thanks I think I'm going to hope that the Jig thing gets it to the download screen then I can follow this guide

I know.... Long list.... I'm stupid for googling quickly instead of coming here... The worst part of this BF is always commenting on how I need to stop messing with the software on my phones and just leave them alone. :rolleyes:

Then I go and kill his phone within 30 minutes. I will never hear the end of this

I don't understand how this person has the time to keep making accounts just to piss off a mod. Must have nothing better to do.

Anyway, is this a JIG? ~~> USB Jig (How To) It seems like it'll get your phone running so you can fix the issue. According to the link above it says it'll force a phone into Download Mode when plugged in. Fail-safe? o_O

I don't plan on bricking my device but I think I'll invest in one just in case, lol.

EDIT: I just found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727171&highlight=unbrick. It's for people who flashed the International GSM boot image (I'm assuming that means ROM? O_O) Hopefully this helps *crosses fingers*

i had to ( sry you know who i wont name, damn i wish i could make a down arrow ) no, hes got nothing better to do then sit there and wait for the account to be banned, make a new one, do it again... hes just a Mountain Troll and when Dawn comes hell turn to stone!!!!!

DUDE, i hope it will get fixed man. I had it happen to my Warp after i first bought it and was like NO!!!!!!!!!! but i was able to get in and fix it. Best of Luck to ya....all hopes and fingers have been crossed!!! I do not want to see such a pretty Device go to waste like that and that fast. May The Force Be With You on this one................

Thanks for that link! I'll read up on that tomorrow. Investing in one of those jig things should be mandatory if you root! I never knew they existed until I was googling in a panic with a dead phone. The doohicky was shipped out today so maybe I'll get out before the weekend.

At least there seems to be a crowd of idiots with me. If I only took the time to read... Teach me to rush!

Yeah that Noooooooooooo was exactly what happened along with lots of other colorful things. Glad that you got it working again. Gives me hope! At least this didn't happen to my Note 2. Tears would have been shed, and I'm not a crier.

I just watched their video. Looks legit to me and that's definitely an in-depth way to unbrick a phone. I have a feeling everything will be fixed after they've gotten their hands on it.

I think $60 is cheap enough to unbrick a phone. I'm sure Sprint can't fix bricked phones, lol

Why not take it in to the Sprint store. If it is a new phone it's still under warranty, right? If they can't get it to start up they'll get you a refurb replacement for about $40. At least that's what I think would happen.

I had the same thing happen, and I just took it into the Sprint store and they sent me a new one with no charges. Granted, I didn't tell them why it wasn't turning on, just that it wasn't turning on. lol

I avoid the sprint store at all costs! Around here they are really horrible. I don't even have insurance on the account... PLus it's nice to know why this phone is messed up. The last refurbished phone we got from Sprint barely lasted a year before the CPU fried in the ICS update.
Just mailed it off today! Hoping to get it back by next Friday and put this whole fiasco behind us.

MobileTechVideo is legit. I bricked my Verizon S3 -- dead, dead, dead. Nada. Paperweight. Tried everything on all the boards, but it was a goner. Desperate, so I sent it in to MobileTechVideo. Mailed it overnight on a Monday, and it was back three days later in perfect condition. $60. They delivered!
