Root Apps hanging, FC and OV slow overall

I am rooted with the Backside ROM 01312012 build on my OV (VM670). The past few days I have run into problems with the system slowing down to a crawl, hanging, and various apps giving me the message of: 'Activity [app name] (in application [app name] is not responding.' Force close, wait, or report. This has happened with numerous apps, but it seems to happen more often with ADW.Launcher. I show plenty of internal memory (50M+) and plenty of space on my SD card (4G+).

After backing up from recovery, I tried fixing permissions. It took about 15 minutes for fix permissions to run its course and when I rebooted, I got dialog box after dialog box with the 'not responding' message resulting in my having to force close numerous apps. This resulted in many apps disappearing from my screen. I restored my backup and then tried installing Steriscon's Fix Permissions app from the Play Store. Using that app, I went thru app by app and tried fixing permissions.

Throughout this process, the fix permission app kept crashing and I kept chosing 'wait' until I could continue. I also noticed that the FixPermission app kept getting superuser permission over and over. Using the fix permission app did not solve the hanging problem. I continue to get either the dialog noted above or the force close/wait dialog on multiple apps.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Restore your backup.
The "fix permissions" option in the recovery has a tendency to bork everything.
In the future use a terminal emulator instead.

As far as your initial problem, it was probably caused by low RAM.
I use "Fast Reboot" which shuts apps down then re-starts only those that need to be running. I also use three different cache cleaners (they all leave out something) to clean all cache including all internet, and download cache at least once a week if not more.
If my RAM stays above 50% my phone is a monster. If it gets below 40% it's a wimp and slower than molasses in a deep freeze.

I was having a similar problem with Backside and anytime I tried to fix it the problem would resolve itself only temporarily. Finally decided to just clean every thing and do a new install, but decided to give the [CyanogenMod-7 ROM+KERNEL] OM-Mandylion ROM a go.

I really enjoyed Backside, but hats off the to person working on the OM-Mandylion ROM, I think recent improvements to the ROM makes this a much better option then Backside now a days...highly recommend it! Plus it's nice to have someone still actively working on improving ROM's for our V's considering that these phones are approaching Dinosaur age in terms of technology LOL!

I'm just to poor for another, or new phone and there is no way in hell I'd ever get an iPhone.

I agree with you there!

I can't wait until i get some extra money for a bigger sd card so i can try out your rom +recovery!
Unfortunately its gonna have to wait cause my truck needs inspection and it needs tires, brakes, muffler and the list goes on, so i'm stuck with backside for awhile.

There has been an update to the MiRaGe ROM. I'm currently on the previous MiRaGe and I think it's noticeable smoother and faster than the 01312012 build of the BACKside ROM.
My apps open faster then they ever have, and I can do more multitasking and not freeze/lag/auto rebbot the phone.
I have such poor data connection ( no WiFi) that trying to download the Newest Mandylion or MiRaGe is out of the Question.
Right now the phone is all I got, but I liiike iiit!

Your ZenGarden recovery has now surpassed all other recovery's with the latest option.
I would recommended it just because it will allow install of all ROMs old and new and is able to restore any backup made, even from another recovery.

With all the added options, it's a no brainer what recovery I've got installed

To OP: Try creating the partition thru the recovery. If you need to change the format, then use Mini Tool Partion Wizard.
I've had problems in the past creating the partition with Mini Tool. The recovery seems to work the best.
