Help Jelly Bean discussion/issues thread (released Dec. 13)

I am having this issue. it happened after the JB update. the only fix i have found is to use Navigation in 2D mode. it hasn't crashed in 2D mode yet, however the map does not move with you when you drive. i am using Waze for the time being

Did you happen to try clearing the google maps application's cache and/or data? I currently have 52 MB in my cache and almost 3 MB of data. Although I haven't experienced a crash, it could be some errant data that's causing it.

I still have not updated to JB or the latest MR, but I have seen reports on Sprint forums of others with this issue. It is not happening to every handset, but it seems to be an issue.

This is going to be more with Google rather than with Sprint/HTC.

You should submit a ticket to the google forums. There are probably quite a few people who have already posted on the google forums.

Thanks, I'll post a ticket on Google forums. I did some research on this and does seem to be making some peeps pretty upset.

Getting ready to take road trip. I'll clear out the cache and data. See if that improves anything. Report back later after the road test. Thanks.

Okay, cleared cache/data. Drove and Google Nav crashes. Then cleared cache/data and uninstall Google updatesl (Reboot) 2min in to the drive Google nav crashed. Cleared cache/data, uninstalled Google maps (reboot) installed updates (reboot) and under settings turned of screen dimming. 30 secs into the drive Google nav crashed. (searches head and throws hands up :( )

I put a trouble ticket into Google and will see where that goes :)

Untill then using Android Mapquest app is working great and it's free. Most interesting is it does not continue to run in the background unlike Google map :p

(Update/follow-up)
Anyway, as you can see by the post above been scratching my head with Google map/navigation crash issue since JB update. The only work around I have been able to get it working without crashing is by:
1) clear cache/data.
2) Unistall updates
3) Go into settings>developer options>advanced> check mark disable HW overlays and force GPU rendering.
4) Re-install updates
I ran around town for most of day w/o issue running Google Map/navigation.
Hope this helps. :)

P.S. Since check marking Force GPU rendering "to me" web surfing seems much snappier.

Is there a way to remove the "Power saver" toggle feature from the notification dropdown? I don't use it (and when I did turn it on once, I also don't like the constant icon on the notification bar) and it's just distracting, because it's not really a notification like everything else that gets listed in this dropdown.

Thanks.

I don't know if this is caused by my phone, jelly bean, or the forum. When browsing through the Android Forums via my EVO 4G LTE (fullsite), the top banner, post quick reply, go advanced, and any advertisement ads seem to look washout.

Is anyone else seeing this? I just wanna know if I might need to do a reset, even though I don't think its the phone.

See screenshot below:

I'm thinking about doing a hard reset after updating to JB (I waited until the 3.16 maintenance release). I don't have any major problems, but it's a touch slower and battery life is a touch worse than I had under ICS.

In light of this, what settings are backed up when using that option under "Backup and Reset" in settings? Is it all of the little tweaks and options that I've made? Does it include my homescreens? And is it safe to restore from that back up, or would it just dirty the cache that I was trying to clean by resetting?

I have an Evo 4G LTE from Sprint. I recently did a system update and i got a whole bunch of new features that are really cool. However, I used to be able to Hide my "Camera Shots" album from the gallery menu along with the "All Pictures" and "All Downdloads" albums. Now when I hit menu the check mark does not untoggle for the "Camera Shots." I am not sure if this is something to do with the update or if there is something wrong with my phone. Can someone help?
