This guide is start to finish to root your Epic 4G Touch on the latest ICS build (FI27). If your not on the latest ICS FI27, request me to write up a guide for an older build in a post below and i'll make it happen. :)

Needed files:
http://rwilco12.com
Navigate to Sprints S2 (D710)(FI27) under the downloads tab and choose either no data (no wipe)or restore (wipe)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dp1llsc95tjy415/Sprint_d710_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0.exe
Latest Samsung Drivers

-Step 1
--Getting ready
-Make sure you download the required files above.
-Either the NoData Exe (keeps your data) or RootedRestore (erases your data).
-Also the Samsung drivers if not installed yet, not getting anywhere without those :p.
-Create a new folder on your pc desktop, name it whatever you wish, but i named mine "FI27 Root".

-Step 2
--Beginning Root Process
-Navigate to where you downloaded either "NoData" or "RootedRestore" exe to, double click to open it.
-You'll now have a window pop up asking you to extract the exe data, click the "..." tab and navigate to your "FI27 Root" folder you made earlier and click ok.
-From here, the exe will extract it's data into your "FI27 Root" folder.

Step 3
--Odin
-Once all the data is finished extracting into your "FI27 Root" folder, open up "FI27 Root", from here you'll notice you have another folder named "Odin OC". Double click to open, then you'll have another application inside that folder, either the "NoData" or "RootRestore". Double click that as well to open it, and here we now have our 1 Click application.
-Once you have the Odin 1 Click open, grab your phone now and power it completely down.

Step 4
--Download "Odin" Mode
-If your not familiar with how to get into "Download" or "Odin" mode, once your phone is completely powered off, hold your volume down button along with the power button until the Galaxy S II screen comes up.
-From here, you'll have a warning menu to come up. Not to worry, just press your volume up button to continue.
-Now you should be on a screen with a little green android along with saying "Downloading...", from here plug in your device to the pc.

Step 5
--Odin 1 Click
-After you have your device plugged into the computer, in the 1 Click app, one of the blank white boxes (under the blank grey boxes) should turn yellow along with "@:{COM9}" or something very similar to that.
-Now what you should want to do is click "start" in the Odin 1 Click, sit back, grab some tea (if your from the south :p). This is going to take a little while. When I rooted using the same method, took around 20 minutes. So don't be alarmed if it does take a rather good bit of time.

Trouble shooting
If odin isn't recognizing your device, try any/all of the following:
-changing usb cords
-switching usb ports
-reinstalling drivers

Step 6
--Finishing Up
-You'll see a green progress in the Odin 1 Click and a blue progress bar on the device itself.
-After the lengthy amount of time, Odin 1 Click will say "passed".
-A moment later, your phone will reboot on it's on, if it goes into the stock recovery, don't be alarmed, just do a battery pull and restart your device.
-Once your phone powers on, go into your applications list and find an app called "SuperUser".

Congrats! Your now officially rooted!

There shouldn't be any problems using this root guide, but if any problems do come up, please post below and i'll do my best to assist you :)

I take no credit for this, all credit goes to Mattix724

Now that we have the latest official release for the new TouchWiz GB27 4.1.2, I figured I would update this thread for those that have downloaded the update from FL24 to GB27 via Kies.

You WILL need to use a PC in order to gain root access

DISCLAIMER

DO NOT USE AGAT RECOVERY TO FLASH ANY AOSP ROM. THERE HAVE BEEN CASES OF HARD BRICKS.

I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR DEVICE. THESE METHODS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE PROVEN TO WORK. FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS MAY GIVE YOU UNEXPECTED RESULTS.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

How to root with SuperSU

You will need...

Odin3_v3.04

GB27 Agats Repack Recovery

SuperSU-v0.97

Stock GB27 kernel zip

SuperSU from the Play Store

1. Using a Windows XP or greater based computer, download and extract Odin to a directory which you are comfortable using. You can extract to your desktop if you want. I personally use my documents folder.

2. Power off then press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode, plug in your USB cable after opening Odin. Click on PDA to select and flash Agat's repacked recovery kernel.

3. Download this file and reboot to recovery by pressing and holding volume up and power then flash SuperSU-v0.97.zip

4. After flashing the SuperSU zip, flash the GB27 stock kernel and reboot.

5. Download SuperSU from the Play Store.

6. Open the SuperSU app and update the binary.

This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

Stock GB27 kernel zip

2. Power off then press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode, plug in your USB cable after opening Odin. Click on PDA to select and flash Agat's repacked recovery kernel.

3. Flash the subusybox zip in recovery

4. Flash the stock GB27 kernel in recovery and reboot.

This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

One-Click Method

You will need...

GB27 Rooted Nodata

1. Download the Rooted Nodata from the link above.
2. Using a Windows XP or greater computer, open the One-Click package.
3. Power down your phone and then press and hold volume down + power to enter download mode. Plug in your USB cable.
4. Click start.

This method WILL NOT trigger the yellow triangle or increase your flash counter.

You now have root access. Congratulations.:D:thumbup:

Do you have an ugly yellow triangle after performing one of the first two methods? Do you want to get rid of that and reset your flash counter back to 0?

Chainfire has an app for that!

TriangleAway v2.90 XDA Version

Please consider donating for his work and buy Triangle Away from the Play Store.

Better yet, I'll try to explain the flashing process as best as I can here.

Items needed:

Mobile Odin from the play store

EL26 kernel/recovery found here: http://db.tt/NrWmc164

Download the rom and gapps from the official xda thread or the thread I have posted in this forum

Instructions:

Open up mobile odin and let it detect your rom, kernel, recovery etc
Tap on the kernel tab, and where ever you downloaded the EL26 kernel/recovery to (internal or external) select it, and navigate to to EL26.

Scroll to the bottom and select flash firmware.

Your phone will reboot, once the splash screen comes up, hold down volume down and power at the same time until a blue screen comes up which is now your custom recovery.

From here, select "backup" using your volume rocker and power button. You'll always want to make a back up before flashing anything.

Once the backup is finished. Go back to the main screen in the recovery, navigate down to factory reset and select it.

Once the phone is reset, now select wipe cache in the same menu, once that's done, go back to your main screen again.

Navigate to "advanced" and from here you'll see an option to "wipe dalvik cache" select it and go back to your main screen once it's wiped.
And from here, you'll select "install zip from sd card", navigate to wherever you downloaded the rom and gapps to, first choose the rom and let it install (could take a couple minutes to install.) once it's finished, then choose to install the gapps using the same method.

Choose to reboot system.

Reboot takes up to 5 minutes.

And you've successfully flashed a rom :)

Hi, I've used this method a few times to root other phones, I just tried this with my phone and after odin finished it rebooted and now it just freezes at the home screen and shuts off. Tried rebooting and pulling the battery. Any ideas?

What's your base? FI27 or something different?

Have you also tried re rooting?

"Needed files:
Rwilco12's Android Repository
Navigate to Sprints S2 under downloads tab (FL24)
One Click Odin"

I want to root my S2 with FL24 build, but I can't find the specified file at that link. Is it available somewhere else? Is One Click Odin universal or specific for each phone/build, etc?

My apologies for taking a few to get back to you . It was requested I take down direct links and just redirect to the official Site . but to answer your question, it's suggested you use the fl24 file.
