Thinking about coming from GSIII...

...but I'm somewhat concerned about the lag I've read about.

I don't know if it's actually an issue, some people don't seem to have any lag, others seem to have keyboard lag, and others seem to complain about lag in general.

I use swype, so I don't know if the keyboard thing is a problem, but I am concerned about general lag.

The big battery is what I am looking for (also I like the more premium feel vs the SGIII) but I don't want to lose performance.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I recently got my phone abour 1-2 weeks ago and decided to take the plunge into accepting the OTA for 4.1.1. I did do a factory reset right after and I have not noticed any dramatic performance degradation or lag when compared to being on 4.0.4. I was a lil hesistent to take the OTA from fear of the same performance devrease that you read about. However, both me and a friend of mine have experienced no such hinderance. I hope this helps you in your decesion. Good Luck and let me know what you decide to do.

The perceived lag is very subjective. I think it's less a case of actual lag vs. how sensitive people are to it. I've got my RMHD loaded up with hundreds of programs, Smart Action and Tasker programs and all manner of things. Everyone once in a while the screen 'hiccups' or 'jitters' during a transition but it's literally for milliseconds. Only you can tell if it will affect you negatively. I've never had or used a SGIII - I came over from the iPhone.

The RAZR MAXX HD is ALL about the battery in my opinion. What little 'lag' there is does not bother me at all. If you are one of those people that will lose their mind if the phone is not seemlessly smooth then I would suggest trying something else.

I will tell you I'm using an aftermarket keyboard called Kii (a much better version of Swype or gesture-type keyboard IMHO) and I have no noticeable lag with that and I'm a pretty intensive texter and keyboard gesture typer.

I love this phone. YMMV.

Both my fiance and father have GSIII's which I bought for them. The GSIII is very smooth and has lil to no lag/hiccup like methos says. I personally think its the extra GB of RAM that the GSIII has that helps out with that feeling. I personally debated myself between a GSIII and the RMHD for weeks before purchase bc I was paying full retail cost of $650 to keep my unlimited data on VZW. I choose the RMHD for 3 reasons. Please keep in mind these are my reasons and opinions. I went with the RMHD bc of 1- Battery , 2- Motorla Radios , 3- Build Quality.

My suggestion is to maybe go to a VZW store ot BBY store and ask to play with their demo phone. You will never know what you like and dislike w/o trying it out.

Perhaps some folks have been adjusting the Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale options that are available in Settings>Developer options. Mine are all set, at what I assume are default, .5. I have read other posts suggesting that you can even turn all of that off for smoother transitions. I do believe that the Jelly Bean update did not improve the overall quality of operation. I hope that a new update will fix some of this lagging.

But having had the GSIII, and now the RMHD, I would not go back to the GSIII. The RMHD is a great phone!

There is some lag on my phone, more like slow memory or slow to load. It doesnt bother me much bc it really doesnt make much of a difference, it just looks ugly.

My biggest gripe is the screen brightness. Automatic brightness always makes it too dim for me. I installed lux to fix that problem. Also, even on full bightness, its vey hard to see outside in the bright sun bc it doesnt get bright enough. Guess i was spoiled with my old motorola photon.
