The guide on XMD has me confused. All I (ever) want is to run root-only apps off of Google Play. No custom ROMs, or anything like that.

So here's where I am currently, I have completed step 4:

""1. Start ODIN
2. Put phone into download mode
3. Download(USE FIREFOX!) CWM 5.5.0.4 OR TWRP 2.2.2.0 TAR FILE "recovery.tar.md5" , do not change the filename, and select it in PDA section of ODIN
4. Hit the START button in odin, wait until it finishes.
5. Udate CWM from HERE or TWRP from HERE or with the TWRP 2.4.1.0 Flashable Zip
6. You're done.""

Ok. So can you tell me what have done to my phone so far? Like, what have I accomplished? And can you tell me how to complete step 5? I have put my phone in recovery mode, told it to install the new CWM zip, and nothing seems to have changed on my phone. What gives? I just literally have no idea what is happening or why...

Hi yargdpirate :wavey: Welcome to the forums.

Did you get rooted? Are you following this guide? I don't have your phone but the process is pretty similar to mine. What you have done so far is install a recovery. You still need to install a superuser.zip in recovery to be rooted.
