Root [ROM] Viper4G 4.0.0 and beyond

Well, I'm enjoying the ROM so far! Thankfully, all of my Tasker profiles are still working flawlessly, and all of the tweaks/shortcuts that I have come to love are still available and functional.

However, I'm experiencing issues with stuttering when swiping between screens (even though, as of right now, I only have icons on two of them). ...Or at least I was up until this very moment when I reset HTC Sense.

I'm also having a problem with the status bar "CM brightness control" lagging really bad when I slide my finger left/right (I have to pause for a second for it to actually change the brightness). Whereas the regular quicksettings brightness controller is completely fluid with the brightness shifting while I adjust it. This lag occurs whether or not I have the brightness slider activated in my quicksettings. Any thoughts?

I'll check that and report it to the team, get back to you.

You do want to update your hboot to 1.12.2222 just in case you ever need to fastboot flash something from your PC. That step will round you out as complete. Should be a link in either the main or s-off root sticky for that. It's basic. Grab file to external sd card, check md5, reboot, flash, remove file from sd card.

PS - welcome to the s-off side of truth and justice, and to Viper4G! :)

when dirty racun came out, i talked to team unlimited via irc and they said that there is no need to update hboots any more for fastboot support. it has already been added during the process.

Swiping between screens has become laggy again.

Also, I cannot seem to get push notifications from my gmail anymore. I can't even find an alternative option for how frequently it should sync. Right now it only works when I go in and manually hit the refresh button. Any ideas?

Clear cache and Dalvik, report back, thanks.

I understood that LazyPanda was used here rather than Dirty Racun, hence the bootloader at 1.12.1111. If true, then I would stand by the hboot 1.12.2222 advice.

Cache and Dalvik cleared.
- CM Screen Brightness still lags badly.
- Swiping through screens appears to be smooth, but I'll update later after it has had time to settle.
- Gmail still does not update without opening the app AND manually refreshing. This is a big problem for me.

Bootloader IS at 1.12.1111. I will look into updating this evening.

Is gmail sync on under main settings, accounts, along with auto sync?
There is no "Gmail" account option there. Thought there are my "Google" accounts. Under the Google account(s), I see my Gmail/Google accounts at the top, and several "privacy" setting below.
The privacy settings do not contain any gmail options. Inside the account there are various checkboxes that allow me to turn syncing on and off for various services (calendars, gmail, etc).
However, there is no setting for "push" notifications, or any form of periodical sync. Furthermore, all of the accounts are already checked (and supposedly syncing). So there's nothing else I can do.
Finally, inside the gmail app itself, no options exist for push or periodical syncing.

I short, Auto-sync is not working at all, and I cannot find an option for periodic syncing.

With gmail checked to sync as you described and auto sync on, you ought to be getting push performance, and seeing it notify if you have that option checked in Gmail. And the sync setting in the Gmail app should agree with your main settings, and say on.

Just confirming your expectation there, it works for me.

Hmmm. Could be as simple as a stuck bit in hardware.

Let's try this. Please uncheck all sync settings, power down phone for a full minute, power up and re-select the same, logical sync settings that you had. Let's see if that clears the condition.

Making a separate post so you don't miss it as an edit above.

I just thought of something else.

Once upon a time, you had to be logged in to Talk for push Gmail to work. I recall that they changed that, but for some time, I've always been logged in. I'm wondering if they changed that back??
That appears to have worked! Gmail is syncing automatically!

Plus, I have not seen the screen swipe stutter anymore!

THANKS EARLY!

Now my only remaining issue seems to be the CM notification bar brightness slider. Still horrible. I use it all the time, but I can live with it.

If you don't mind my asking, what sorts of Tasker profiles do you have set up?

Sure, no problem.

- Morning Weather - every weekday at 7am it speaks the local weather to me and then sends a text to my wife's phone containing the same weather info.
- Phone Locator - when a text keyword is received, it retrieves the GPS coordinates of my phone, though I haven't tested it since I first got the phone.
- Mom's Wifi - I have TERRIBLE service at my Mother's house that kills my battery. When I get to her house, the Airplane mode and Wifi both kick on.
- Tablet Talk - When this app is active, the phone never sleeps.
- SMS Screen On - Whenever a text is received the screen turns on. I think this might have been a new option in Viper 3.1.0, rendering this profile unnecessary.
Car - Basic stuff. GPS On, Wifi Off, Screen Timeout Off, Volume Up, Clear Stored Parking Location (This is significantly toned-down from its prior incarnation that I used before I had my current setup with the LTEvo car dock and CarHome Ultra).
Car SMS Responder - If I'm driving, my phone reads the text out loud to me and then sends an auto-response back to the sender telling them that I am driving.
Car Dimmer - If I'm driving it adjusts the screen brightness based on the time of day.
Others - Several typical location-based changes to my settings (GPS, Wifi, Volume, etc).

I haven't yet tried to see if the on-demand GPS location stuff is still working. I know that it stopped working on my Son's LG Optimus after the last update.... So that could be an issue.

I'd love to hear about anything interesting in yours that you'd like to share.

Also, to keep the thread from going offtrack, if you have any questions about how to achieve any of the above stuff, PM me and I'll let you know the details.

So I've updated to Viper 4G 3.1.2 and I'm running into a few issues (though I think only one or two are attributable to the ROM).

1 - Still having the brightness control lag issue.
2 - Wifi tethering is INCREDIBLY slow! Yesterday I was trying to run it, and it was topping out at around 23kb/s. Maybe my Wifi Tether settings are improper? Any ideas?
3 - Since rooting, I'm still getting the message "This build is for development purposes only" etc. on my splashscreen, and the section under settings>About>Tell HTC still says "This is a test device ... Tell HTC is enabled and cannot be turned off regardless of device settings." How can I get rid of this?

1.not sure on that one.....maybe a dalvik cache and cache wipe?
2.which app are you running? sprint's hacked hotspot or the wifi tethering app?
3.
For the Splash screen you would have to flash the mod that Regaw made to get rid of it.
I think it's in the one of the Stickie's at the top of this section.

Personally it never bothered me so I never flashed it. Mine still says that on the Splash.

this is what you will need:
[UTILITY | S-OFF] RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer 3.1.1 | Updated 07.04.12

I'd check the MD5 sum of the rom zip, and when good, I'd reflash it.

For most Play Store issues, app management, Play Store, clear data, and then the same for Google Play services, but in this case you have some stuff under the hood that's seriously corrupted.

Also, you want to not wipe in TWRP, but do a full wipe from the rom installer.

PS - try holding the power button for 10 seconds to reset the error condition so you can get in.

Failing that, hold the power button for 10 seconds, then as soon as it shuts down, hold the volume down button until booted into bootloader.
