Root sudo: not found SUDDENLY in Terminal Emulator

I don't know what the heck just happened but I just a little bit ago (while reading here at this forum) I went to Terminal Emulator to double-check to make sure it was still rooted (I was pretty positive it was). I opened Terminal Emulator, got a $, typed in "sudo", got # (which I understood meant you are rooted). While reading alot mentioning using SuperUser for various things, I remembered it use to be on here but wasn't anymore (had alot of stuff/programs get deleted once when friend borrowed phone) so I went to my previous installed apps in Play & reinstalled it (don't think that has ANY relevance to issue, but mentioning it just incase :) ). After reading some more I decided to try something in Terminal Emulator, but now when I open it & type "sudo" I get "sudo: not found". I also tried "su" but get same "su: not found"!!! I even tried uninstalling superuser (since was ONLY thing I had done since it working earlier) and I restarted phone too, but still get "not found" message. I have NO idea why or what the problem is. Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you VERY much!! !

Look in /system/xbin. su should be in there. If it isn't try running gingerbreak again. Or you could reload your ROM, I'm presuming you are running a custom ROM.

I haven't used gingerbreak, I just rooted it using Terminal Emulator. I have NOT gotten a custom from on it yet (that's 1 of the things I was reading up on how to do today, lol), so it is just what it came from Virgin with...
Soooooo I'm guessing that I have to go read how to use gingerbread to root it, then go from there??? I don't have easy access to a computer, so is there a way to do it without a regular computer? Or do I have to have PC access to use gingerbreak?

Thank you VERY much for your assistance!

UPDATE: got gingerbreak installed. Now what? Or since I have Gingerbreak should I not even work at fixing the "sudo" problem?

If your goal is to ROM the phone, just ROM it. Almost, if not all, custom ROMs come pre rooted. You just need a custom recovery like ClockWorkRecovery. Not ClockWorkMod. They are two different things.

After you have a ROM on your phone, don't let your freind borrow it. Why someone wouldl erase stuff on another person's phone I don't understand.

I'm gonna probably put a from on it later today when I get time. Thanks alot for the info though. I did however get Gingerbreak installed on it already & I searched for sudo (& for su) but cannot find it.

As for people deleting stuff... alot of ppl are idiots. Supposedly they didn't delete or uninstall anything at all, yet alot of programs mysteriously got uninstalled at the same time. What irritated me most I think is that my bookmarks on Dolphin even got deleted! Greeter

Now with it rooted with gingerbreak I gotta figure out where/how to delete/uninstall some of the bloatware & how to find where all my internal memory has gone (already checked alog files, but they apparently aren't the memory problem)

I honestly think it will take you less time to backup what you have with MyBackup or equivalent, install something like the Virgin Revamp Rom (which is what we should have been given by Virgin) and start with that, that go through and individually uninstall/delete stuff.

I moved due to the alog problem (which I couldn't get to through anything other than the terminal emulator and the su command), and haven't looked back.

I did find my alog files afterall (dont ask how i missed them the first time ) & a few were pretty big. Now instead of approx 25mb internal, i have over 600mb so far.

I never found the "sudo" or su not found problem... Since i just rooted it with gingerbreak (instead of using Terminal Emulator) do i need to figure out why/how its suddenly missing???

I have lots & lots & lots of stuff on different roms. Which ones do yall recommend (i dont care if its similar to stock, or totally different), since there are apparently alot of different ones? I mean, cause I also of course see people having alot of issues too with each one(which is expected, especially at first). The wifi still working is the very most important thing for me (&camera too).

Well I would recommend our CM7, check my signature. It's very stable, has a great set of features, and everything works except HDMI.
Our CM9 is a work in progress and there are a lot of changes going on. adamto has done wonders for the camera, but the FFC still locks up the whole camera modual and there is a disscusion on what files to use. Anyway, when that simmers down it will be my recommendatio.

Cm7 is also what i kinda figured. I know it seems to probably be the most popular. Thanks alot for your assistance! :)

Hey, to backup my apps data, preferences, etc, would my backup or Titanium be better (I'd have to use free versions). Also I need to make sure my Dolphin bookmarks also get saved & its REALLY important that the stuff I have in my phones stock calendar gets saved.

Thanks again for all y'all's awesome help

Most of the stuff I backup is through my google account, contacts, calender, WiFi settings. Then I also backup my text messages and call logs with smsbackup and restore and the same guy's call backup tool.

On some browsere you can export you bookmarks. You may want to run a search on some of the stuff.

Most apps can get curupted user data if you restore a backup. Be aware of this. Not sure if I have any more useful information.....
