What rare cars have you seen in person?

LFA at 2010 Chicago Auto Show
McLaren MP4-12C on the West Side of Madison
A neighbor of mine owned the 6th Corvette z06 ever produced
I saw the first Aventador in the United States, I think there are about 300 here now.
I once was a Ford GT, Dodge Viper and Lamborghini Gallardo do a drag race on a public road... that was cool

There are a lot of rare cars I have seen, but Living in Wisconsin, a lot of cars are rare here, so I am trying to keep my list to only low production vehicles.

More than I can recall. A friend's dad owned several rare MGs that were restored to concours quality, and an original gullwing Mercedes. I've seen plenty of Italian exotics, including the BB512 Ferrari that was my teenage dream car. I came across one parked by the side of the road, like it had run out of gas. So I went to gawk for a while.

I also saw a '67 Pontiac Firebird with the rare I-6 OHC motor outside a bar, and had the good fortune to be there when the owner came out, and got to see this rare motor. Sweet!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I saw a Shelby Mustang 500KR (with all the NACA ducts) parked in a hospital parking lot.

2 Months ago I got to take some pics of the Fisker Karma:

The roof was really impressive, all the solar tech under deep clear coat.. :)

We get lots of nice cars driving through.. Ferraris, Lambos, Maybachs, Etc.. And I am now packing a better camera phone (still not that great as you can see), so I am getting pics where I can. ;)

I've never had a Tesla S stop long enough for a pic, but I have seen 2 of them in traffic.

That Fisker Karma drew a crowd shortly after I took the pics (there's two guys coming across the street for a look in one of the hood pics), likely because it's so 'Jag' looking and most folks don't realize what's up?

The 3 times I've come across a Maybach in town nobody else was giving them a second glance, even with a chauffeur attending the cars (one fellow was actually buffing it while waiting).

Even just the paint job on those cars is stunning to see with the naked eye..

The "typical" lot of exotics and auto show cars for me. A few of my favorites were the Ariel Atom, Aventador, MP4-12C, and the 458 Italia. An oldie but goodie I saw was a right hand drive EVO IV at a car show that was in excellent condition. My favorite for old classic car has to be the Bel Air, I love seeing them restored in their classic teal color scheme.

I was able to race a Gallardo Superleggera 570-4 for a couple of laps out at Vegas Motor Speedway. Definitely recommend Exotics Racing to any car enthusiast when they're out in Vegas. They have the typical lot of exotics including the Aventador, 458, MP4-12C, and others. They're also picking up the new Stingray, Viper, and F12 Ferrari later this year. I was sceptical at first thinking they would force you to baby the cars, but as long as you're driving proper lines and being safe they let you drive the cars very hard.

Some friends and I once had the crown prince of Johor Baru give us a guided tour of his (or more probably, his dad's) car collection (long story). That was pretty stunning and there were way too many amazing cars to recall, but pretty much everything there was a very limited edition of something that's pretty rare in the first place.

Just two highlights: a 1930s open top Mercedes, one of 3 built. One of the other two having been a gift from Mercedes to Hitler.

Then my absolute favourite: a 1970s Bentley estate. Horrific, but inside, where everything's normally swathed in walnut and leather? Pornographic pictures. Everywhere. The original shaggin' waggon.

- Several F355s back when they were out in Aspen
- Ferrari F50 on the streets of Aspen
- Several Maybachs on the street
- Several Bentleys on the street
- Ferrari F430 on the highway
- Ferrari 458 spyder, FF, 512 at the dealer in NYC
- Ferrari 512 parked on the street on the Upper East Side
- Ferrari California in the East Village
- Lamborghini Countach on the highway
- A few Phantoms on the street
- A Ghost at the hospital (har, har)

- I went to that casino in Monaco for a vacation several years ago and it really is insane. Spend 5 minutes there and a Bentley becomes boring and commonplace compared to all the other Ferraris and Lambos.

- The best sighting ever was on a trip in Italy, I was on a bus on the hwy maybe 1hr away from Modena and I'm bored out of my mind. All of a sudden this red F430 FLIES by the bus, with that exhaust note. That was cool.

- Porsche 911 slantnose? Doesn't matter if it was the real deal or not, but I was driving cross country in a E39 530i, which is like the perfect car. It was the first luxury/performance car I had driven and it was fast. On the highway, 100mph was easily achievable and you could easily hit go to jail speeds effortlessly. Well this slantnose 911 pulls up next to me as he's trying to pass on the highway, he's just passing at a few mph above me. Obviously I'm looking at this car and we both make eye contact and the road was wide open, so we both gunned it. I knew the 911 was going to beat me, but I wondered how badly. I wondered how fast this old 911 would be since I've always seen them driving slowly at a golf course or something. I gunned it, I mean I put the pedal down, deep down into the floormat. Get ready to fly! Umm... no. This Porsche was moving 1, 2, 3 carlengths ahead and farther away from me. Then I saw it- the whaletail. Yeah, that'll be turbo then. Game over. The best way I can describe it is if he went WOT and I slammed on the brakes. That's how fast I felt like I was going. I couldn't believe it and looked at the speedo- 60-70-80-90-100-110. I was moving, but the Porsche was on a totally different level. He slowed down and it took me several seconds to pull up next to him. I gave him a thumbs up. He then smiled and blasted past me again. Fast, fast car. The acceleration on that was simply amazing.
