Help Disgusting Wi-Fi Strength

Well, the title says it all. Since I bought this phone (i9250), I've gotten dismal signal with it. HSPA+ is comparable to my iPhone 4S, but WiFi is so weak that I can't get a proper signal half 20 feet from my router (Apple Airport Extreme).

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? It's slowly been driving me insane.

Well I can't remember if it does the same thing with other routers. But I have extensively tested a range of products and wireless configurations, and it seems extremely unlikely that it could be the router. All of my other devices pull down at least 25Mbps (MacBook gets 78) but my Nexus sometimes gets as little as 0.01. All tests with same Speed test.net server.

@op - I have a Sprint (CDMA) galaxy Nexus - same issue. WiFi strength is horrible. I've tested with Linksys/Cisco router and Netgear router at home, and then, also with the routers at office. Same issue. Signal strength drops very rapidly when I move away from the router (while other phones/devices have no issue maintaining full signal strength)

Subscribing to this thread just in case somebody finds a solution to this.

Well, just keep in mind that the wifi drivers are in the kernel, not related directly to baseband, etc. Thus the Nexus reputation for weak wifi.

Want to change to a stronger wifi driver? Root and acquire Franco kernel or Trinity. ;)

Would drivers really account for such a loss of WiFi strength and speed? I mean, that's a pretty intense driver muffup.
