i have a tmobile samsung galaxy s3 and i swear ive tried everything to transfer my contacts to my gmail. I've set my phone contacts so only the gmail contacts show, but when i log into my gmail from my laptop it doesnt show any contacts. The contacts on my phone even have the gmail sign next to it, but its just not showing up in the physical gmail.com

Might be that they are hidden in groups on your desktop. Log into your google account on your computer, open the dropdown menu next to 'my contacts' and browse through those groups to see where your contacts are. Select all the contacts in that group, hit the 'groups' button on the top of the page (the one with the three dots) and make sure that in that drop down menu the box next to 'my contacts' is checked. After that all your contacts should show up in the main contacts menu.

Check to make sure Sync it turned on. Go into Settings and scroll down to Accounts. Tap Google, and then your e-mail address. Make sure there is a check mark in Sync Contacts and anything else you want to sync.

thanks! this worked. i have a few questions though

1. if i add a new contact, will it add it to my gmail automatically, or will i have to synch it again?

2. since the contacts are showing up on my gmail account now, if i get a new phone and i add that gmail account to it, all those contacts will automatically go to my new phone?

thank you

When you add a contact, you need to make sure that you save it to google and not the phone. Once you sync and save your contacts to google, they will stay on google...even if you switch phones.
So, yes to your 2nd question:)
