Agree- I think one of the really sexy things about the phone are the menu & back buttons that only light up when you touch them, and I don't see why they couldn't have just done the same thing for a home button. Although, I do use the home button a lot to wake up the phone to save a little wear on the power button. I even like the idea of the onscreen buttons, but it seems like the phones with this setup (like nexus 4), you lose screen real estate and STILL have a half-inch of blank space at the base of the phone.
I agree with the speakers. The Htc One ones seem cool.
I liked the physical camera on my sony phones but the way i see it, touching and holding the onscreen button is like pushing the physical one to the first stage and releasing it is like pushing it all the way down so im not too bothered now
I just realise there is one major thing I do not like about the SGS3. I do not like the placement of the loud speaker. It is place on the back and when it is in my holster, the holster muffles the sound and makes it difficult to hear my phone ring. What I would prefer is for the loud speakers to be placed on the side or corners of the phone. That way, when it is in my holster, it is not right up against the side and the sound will not be muffled. Both my BlackBerry and my old Nokia N97 have speakers on the side or corner. I do not have any problems hearing those phones ring when they are in my holster.
The only thing I would like changed is add that soft touch plastic to the back to make it less slippery. I'm not a fan of metal because it makes the phone get very cold in the winter, to the point where I feel it through my gloves.

why can't the back cover which is just as easily replaceable as a case be made out of the same material?
I personally used several case on my sg3 and they were all to bulky even the slim ones and the slim ones only really offer scrape protection for the back (use a good screen protector and scratches to the screen are rare, and most slim cases don't protect the screen well) but what's the point of protecting a battery cover that is cheaply replaced.
I prefer the silver bumper section of the Galaxy Note 2 than the one on my white Galaxy S3
It looks and feels a lot more premium, and if its not metal? it sure looks and feels like it whereas the GS3 is clearly plastic, look and feel.
Also agree on the power button and volume rocker placement.
The last thing is speaker position, its utterly stupid (the speaker is very low quality compared to other handsets too so maybe its a good thing its muffled when you place the phone down anyway).
Not sure if it is an Android or Galaxy issue (I had this same problem on my Epic 4G), but here is the problem.
1. Make a phone call
2. Another call comes in, you place 1st call on hold while answering the second (nice!)
3. Finish talking to 2nd call, hang up
4. The phone shows both calls still connected, racking up minutes. If you try to hang up one, they both hang up (not nice)
I've never owned a Galaxy, the only Samsung that I've owned was my first Android, the Intercept, and I've never experienced any problems with using the hold function on 6 different Android phones.
OB

I wish the card slot could be accessed without removing the cover- but at least it has one. Samsung gets that consumers want the card slot option.
The home button was more firm
Bigger official battery option with cover and clamshell case/stand option. Perhaps 50% bigger battery rather than the current mega chungas out there. Something that provides more battery life, but also supports a clamshell case/stand like you can use with stock battery.
Added:
All in all though, the GS3 IMO is the best overall device ever made, in spite of the sucky 3G performance.
*Firmer Home Button....
*PLASTIC!!!!!!
*easier to fit a screen protector, i can never get them straight and its not because im rubbish. using snakehive ones
*better antenna
*better zoom on the camera (i go to a lot of gigs)
Too bad the lens cover that is supposed to protect the camera lens actually scratches it instead. I like the idea, but they really screwed up with the execution. I think it was the last smartphone with a lens cover over the camera. I don't think manufacturers use lens covers anymore because it will simply add to the thickness of the phone.
Yeah. I liked lense covers on my old sony ericssons but they do add too much width. Think ive asked this before n not got an answer. Is the glass over the s3 lens Gorilla Glass?
