Root [International] Finally some battery life on 4.2

I've been playing with many roms (liquidsmooth / CM / Wanam / Omega) out there running 4.2, but all of them have been giving me terrible battery life. Mainly due to the stock kernel - who's been eating up up too 75 percent of my juice after a full charge.

However, I've installed Jellybam 6.5 a couple of days ago - it runs a modded kernel - and battery life has been freaking great again. Battery is on 50 percent after 20 hours of low (light user, me, keep that in mind) use. Not showing off - just stating that with my habits I would've gotten 15 hours max out of one full charge on any of the other 4.2 rom's out there. Color me impressed. Now I am fully aware that this might be due to local settings - like the radio - that work better in my location, but maybe this goes for other people too.

If you can do without the Sammy Stock functions and you want to run a stable, battery efficient rom with 4.2 - this is definitely worth a shot.

I know, but I couldnt get a single custom kernel to work with android 4.2. Only stock. Tried a bunch, got stuck in bootloops. Both Perseus and Siyah explicitely say they're not ready yet for this version of android.

Jellybam 6.5 is - as far as I can see - the first one with a costum kernel that works. They've actually updated to 6.6 last night. These guys are fast.

Oh right. No there are no kernels for the yet-to-be released 4.2.1 touchwiz roms.

So essentially what you're saying is "if you can't wait for samsung to release 4.2, go aosp".

Which is a given anyway ;)

Almost. What I'm saying is that all 4.2 based rom's are using the (leaked by Samsung) stock kernel, except Jellybam. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jellybam is running a different kernel in their latest releases than all the other roms mentioned earlier.
Give it a spin man, you'll love it.

All samsung leak based 4.2.1 roms use a repacked samsung stock kernel, because the sources are not yet available to produce anything else. That's why there are only custom kernels based on samsung source up to 4.1.2

AOSP is different though. It has nothing to do with samsung source code. It is Google source code. All AOSP roms, including cyanogen and AOKP (Ergo jellybam by extension which is based on AOKP) use Google based kernels because source IS available.

So yes, jellybam uses a custom 4.2 kernel as do ALL other non-touchwiz based roms. So what you are saying is if you want to run a custom kernel on 4.2, don't use samsung roms. Use AOSP, of which jellybam is one (of many).

So to say all 4.2 roms use a samsung kernel is inaccurate.

Also I'm familiar with aosp. I am a developer after all ;)
