Root Tethering Options? Wireless Tether/Wired Tether not working

So I've been out of the whole messing-with-my-phone for hours game for a while now since I've been so busy with grad school. Last time I reliably tethered was with my OG Evo. I used to use Wireless Tether and Wired Tether with no issues.

Well tonight is the first time I've revisited tethering with my Evo LTE. It's been pointless since I don't have LTE anywhere and Sprint's 3G everywhere I am is so slow that there's no point in tethering it to my computer. With the OG Evo I would tether the WiMax and get 10 mbps down so there was a point.

Ok so my EvoLTE... MeanBean 3.09 and all newest radio stuff (1.12.11.1210 / 2.97_003 / 25012). My computer is running Win7 64-bit and I have an Intel Centrino Wireless N 6150 chip.

When I run Wireless Tether, I don't see the Wifi Network on my computer. I also don't see it on my dad's computer, Win7 w/ a Realtek RTL8188. iirc I only tried Wifi tether once before and my brother saw the network on his Macbook Pro.

The native wired tether in MeanBean 3.09 is not working. Nothing happens on my computer's end. In MikG on my OG Evo I just plugged into the USB, turned on the tethering and it worked.

Edit: I got EasyTether working but would still like to get to the bottom of the native tethering not working... or get Wireless Tether working.

TL;DR My computer and my dad's won't see the wifi network on Wireless Tether. Please help.

have you tried some of the different versions of wifi tethering:Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting ?

i never had the need to tether anymore on my evo 4g lte.

No I haven't. I guess I will play around with a few different versions, thanks.

Do you mean you don't need to tether because the screen is big enough/phone good enough to accomplish most of your online tasks anyway?

I generally feel the same way (when I'm on WiFi since the 4G is either unavailable or pathetically slow), but would still like the option.

I desperately needed the tethering option recently when I dumped Time Warner Cable and picked up ATT's online service. The trouble is that so many people are jumping ship from TWC around here that it took A WEEK to get the ATT people out here to set it up! In the meantime I tried everything I could think of to get wireless OR wired tether to work, but nothing was really functional.

I don't need much speed, only enough to load a few webpages for which the passwords are saved in my laptop OR are not practical to access from my phone (mostly for saving various documents). But I have yet to find anything that works. Granted, I'm not as motivated as I was a couple weeks ago.

But I still want to get this option open. If for no other reason than the time, about 2 years ago, when my car crapped-out while I was on my way to turn in a VERY important report by the deadline.... Thankfully, right there on the side of the road, I was able to tether my laptop to my OG Evo and email it. And thankfully my professor was willing to forgo the hardcopy requirement under the circumstances. It was a very rare occasion, and I rarely use it aside from vacationing, but BOY was I happy to have it that day!

Thank you ocnbrze for the link! So far I've tried that most recent experimental version, but haven't yet figured out the proper settings to get it to activate a signal, let alone open an actual data connection.

Please, can ANYONE get EITHER wired or wireless tethering to work?

So far I've been able to get that most recent version to connect, but it's download speed is fluctuating between 3 and 55 kbps. During a 1 minute period I downloaded almost 300kb of a website (which was little more than enough to get the Google emblem to appear on the page tab).

It reports that, during that first second of connectivity, a speed of 90-ish kbps, but then it immediately drops off to nothing. I'm toggling everything in the settings, but I really have no idea what's wrong with it.

Try EasyTether. I'm able to get a connection now wired with EasyTether. Can't say much of the connection quality because I've only tested it at my parents house where Sprint "3G" is getting anywhere from 15 to 300 kbps.

What kind of sucks is that sometimes you need to tether when you don't have a USB cable on you (unless you're always lugging around a spare one with your computer). Or you don't have your computer but someone else has theirs and no mico USB cable. That's where the Wireless Tether is really handy...

So this has been an issue for a while? Does it not work for anyone on the EvoLTE? I've been out of the loop I guess.
