OK, here's the scoop. Many people have asked if they are knocked off the update path when they are rooted/on a leak/etc.
I was on the leak, rooted, safestrap installed, and did not temp. unroot my device.
I did not receive a notice there was an update available automatically.
I looked this evening if there was an update available.
There was an update available.
I downloaded the update.
I installed the update.
My phone rebooted into the updated JB (98.72.16.X912.Verizon.en.US)
I had lost root.
I downloaded RAZRBlade
I installed RAZRBlade on my laptop.
I used RAZRBlade to restore root.
I have root.
I profit.
Any questions?

For the life of me I can not install the ota update. I have unrooted, deleted SS and placed everything to stock as far as I can tell. Factory reset my phone and downloaded the update half a dozen times. during installation I get an error message and it quiets. I have also tried to install from the SD card method and still I get an error. I must have something I can not see modified but I am lost.

that was happening to me as well, except mine went so far as to not install on a fresh rom flash from matts 1.82, the only way i could get the update was to use matt's utility 1.90.

but once i used 1.90, did a factory reset from that, let the battery FULLY die and charge back up, JB is running smooth, rooted, and ready to rock. even used my old ICS titanium backups for most of my apps and am having no issues (most things i use got JB updates last year).

i strongly advise the FDR after the final flash (there are two rom flashes in 1.90), just solves a ton of issues.

I found 1.82 but not 1.9, do you think that will work

can someone post a link to the utilities that does not involve having to join another forum to download?

The creators of said utilities have specifically requested that they NOT be posted anywhere else without their consent... by any of us posting it we would be directly violating their wishes and, essentially, stealing their work.

... sorry...! :(

DROID RAZR Utility 1.90 -- Windows + Mac + Linux (All In One!) - DroidRzr.com

that's the 1.90 utility. you don't need the 1.82 one, since once you go to the JB bootloader, you CANNOT go back to ICS.

you'll lose all your data, and i personally used a completely separate SD card for it as well, just in case it wiped that, too.

I was having terrible battery issues with official OTA. Finally, bit the bullet and decided to do a complete FDR. So, I decided to follow instuctions above since it's always best to do a CLEAN install. I used options 1 and 3 and wiped my system clean. Back up all that u need. Your apps are already in the Playstore, and there are apps to back up texts and call logs. Copy your data files to your PC. Nothing is lost and all u have to do is reinstall what u need. Go for it. It easy, but FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!
