Hi, my MPCS GS3 is running 4.1.2, and I just tried to root it using this method. Superuser has appeared in my apps, but Superuser info displays "su binary not found" and a checked box next to "outdated binary notification". Titanium Backup reports in can not acquire root privileges. Can anyone recommend specific steps to address the su binary issue? Thanks!

Tried rooting my Metro S3 with DebugFSroot_generic. Root failed X4. Message reads "your device region may not be supported" I'm in the US so I should not need to change my CSC code. Then I tried using Unified Toolkit V7.0 from MSKIP on XDA developers. The MetroPCS version is 4.0.4, but my phone is running 4.1.2. Directions do say you can use the higher version, so I tried the AT&T 4.1.1. I achived root, bu lost my connectivity to the network. Frustrated (nothing good can come from this, right?) I tried one of the only LTE 4.1.2 versions available. This one International LTE... Yes, my phone appears to be bricked since it won't turn on and all I get is the "SAMSUNG" logo.
Am I totally screwed here or is there any hope of recovery? HELP!

the solution is easier than you think let me post u the link.

Edit:

the method here is fist flashing clockwork mod to your phone in order to flash root and yes u can later switch to twrp or a newer cwm if u choose later only if ur rooted first.

so heres the basic break down so u can easily understand what ur going to be doing.

first use odin to flash clock work mod to your phone once you have that on your phone download that SuperSU-v0.96+.zip and place it in your sd card then boot into recovery and flash that zip and bam your instantly rooted.

Follow this thread its the easiest way to root any us variant of the gs3. regardless of what build of android its using.

Got CWM. Installed SuperSU-v0.96+.zip from SD card. - all good. Pressed reboot. Nothing.
Tried again. Waited. Nothing, just the logo. Any suggestions please?

I would have gave it up for dead after trying the international root but if you got into download mode then you just cheated death.

Try and odin back to stock and start over. Look in the all things root stickied thread for your answers.

Btw that thread really needs an update to make it more clear, and the root method is only labled as recovery so I can't even blame all the newbies for being so confused. =/

+11^^^ wait up a sec are u using an international variant of the gs3? i assumed u were atleast using a american variant.... if u have the quad core gs3 dont even bother as i mentioned up above this works for metro and all us variants. international version /quad core cpu is build differently. i should of asked and made sure u were atleast on a us variant.

In some circumstances (especially with flashing a ROM, Kernel, etc.), it can mean the difference between enjoying a tricked-out phone, or owning a brick.

Not criticizing the author of that particular OP, by NO means.... just say'n. ;)

As hard as is to Dev/Theme or Mod, sometimes it can be just as hard to explain in Layman's terms, I'm sure. (as a Technical Writer, I know first hand. lol)

To those gifted enough to Dev AND explain it in an easy-to-understand-for-all way, you have my utmost respect and admiration.

I have the SCH-R530M running 4.1.2. First I used your link to playfuldoidz and followed instructions. I had Odin already. In download mode, got CWM. Copied the SuperSU-v0.96+.zip to my SD and got root. Then when I got stuck at logo, I thought maybe I needed the stock image, so I went looking. Airtiotaclint confirmed that's what I needed to do. I found Shabbypenguin's links and instructions and got the factory stock back.
Then I went back to your instructions, re-downloaded CWM and copied the root file again.
Done! ...beautiful...
Time consuming, but its my day off and the laundry got done while I waited for downloads.

:O so theres a few questions i wanna ask u. what variant of the gs3 do u have and which method worked for u?

I have the Klingon MkXIV variant, with Class III disruptors. (it was an aftermarket option, and I know that Ferengi charged me double )

Okay, Okay - enough with the serious crap... I'll be the first to answer Brother N4zty's question;

Personally, I have the U.S. MetroPCS variant, with the dual core S4 Snapdragon.
I used the RootDebugfs.bat method to obtain root, and installed TWRP as my System Restore.

Class???

(sorry Nasty... I couldn't help myself. :p)

(\/)-Live Long And Prosper lol also that old way isnt as easy as the way shabby posted. it took 5 tries for me to root mikey's phone and it took me 3 tries with another friend of mine. but only takes 1 try to do it with shabby's odin way ;) and it quicker.

Yes, Shabby's version w/Odin IS faster/easier. (I learned that the hard way later on. lol)

Come to think of it, I've only had to root this thing twice so far. (knock on wood) The one time I lost root was due to some weird issue with SuperSU... and I never did figure out why
